DNS Server - BIND DNS with Webmin on Ubuntu 22.04
BIND9 is a flexible and full-featured DNS software widely used on Unix/Linux due to its stability and high quality performance.
The perfect solution for providing DNS resolution to your servers in AWS and clients on prem or in the cloud. This Ubuntu server also comes with Webmin GUI allowing you to manage your server via the servers web portal, making it easier to manage DNS via a GUI. You can also manage DNS via the SSH terminal.
BIND can act as an authoritative DNS server for a zone and a DNS resolver at the same time. A DNS resolver can also be called a recursive name server because it performs recursive lookups for local clients
DNS Server Features:
DNS Dynamic updates
Create master zones, slave zone, stub zone, forward zones, delegation zone, zones from a batch file
Create forwarders and transfers
Create a cluster of DNS Servers
Journal File Incremental zone transfers (IXFR)
Split DNS TSIG (Transaction SIGnatures) is a mechanism for authenticating DNS messages
TSIG-Based Access Control DNSSEC - Cryptographic authentication of DNS information is possible through the DNS Security (DNSSEC-bis) extensions
Logging & error logging capabilities
PKCS#11 (Cryptoki) support
Web UI using Webmin to manager your DNS Server
Also supports clustering. Cluster several DNS Servers and provide high availability to your clients and applications

AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen EC2 instance type. Pricing is usage-based, so charges accrue for each hour an instance runs, with no upfront commitment. The many dimensions listed are not feature tiers. Each one maps to a specific EC2 instance size, from small general-purpose types like t3 and m5 to memory-heavy r5, compute-focused c5, and metal instances. Your hourly cost scales with the instance you select. Larger instances with more CPU and memory carry higher hourly rates. The BIND9 DNS software and Webmin management are the same across all instances.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing represent for a chosen instance type?
One hour covers the software running on a single EC2 instance of that type. Charges accrue for each clock hour the instance runs. Partial hours are metered as the instance runs. Each instance you launch is billed separately, so running two instances doubles the hourly software charge.
Am I charged the hourly rate when the instance is stopped?
The software fee meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS storage fees for the attached disk may still apply while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
Do I pay extra for the BIND9 DNS software or the Webmin web portal?
No separate charge applies. The BIND9 DNS server and the pre-installed Webmin management portal are included in the hourly rate for every instance type. You access Webmin through the server IP on port 10000 and manage DNS zones through the web interface or SSH.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
