Integrated scheduling and collaboration have transformed how we deliver projects on time
What is our primary use case?
Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management has a powerful scheduling tool that handles large and small projects, making it very scalable at any level of detail. Improvements over previous versions make the software more user-friendly and more stable than before.
A specific example of how I use Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management in my role is through the integrated social network that facilitates seamless communication and document sharing among project teams. This feature helps promote teamwork and leads to a better decision-making process. Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management is utilized throughout my entire organization to schedule projects, and the schedule can be built on the project site and accessed remotely by upper-level management and the scheduling department for review. This allows our large organization to operate off the same schedule without worrying about multiple versions and without any hassle.
What is most valuable?
I find myself relying on the project oversight tools the most in my day-to-day work, which helps enable our stakeholders to make informed decisions based on real data while ensuring timely delivery and efficient resource allocation. The enhanced collaboration feature promotes teamwork and leads to better decision-making and collaboration within remote areas. Additionally, the user-friendly interface is very easy to customize and navigate, which contributes to a smoother user experience, allowing enhanced productivity and reduced learning curves for new users.
What needs improvement?
I would also note that the reporting functions and graphs are basic.

Project teams have improved collaboration and have delivered complex portfolios on time
What is our primary use case?
Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management is used primarily in my company to build, manage, and analyze project schedules, and it is also widely used across our product management and R&D departments. It is very helpful in that it houses our project schedules for planning and controls, and because we are able to better predict our major deliverables, we can improve our performance and meet our customers' expectations.
Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management offers high security features and comes with role-based access control. It has all the features of a comprehensive project management software including work breakdown structure, Gantt charts, dashboards, business processes automation, resource allocation, and analysis. It is very scalable for any number of projects, making it one of the best project management solutions, and project outcomes can be improved through the use of Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management as it will optimize resource allocation. However, this software is priced at the high end and is not a cheap alternative, especially for those working on a tight budget, which should be considered.
A specific example of a project where Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management helped me manage schedules and deliverables is that we have been able to achieve enhanced collaboration among the project teams through an integrated social network where users share documents and tag comments, thus being able to collaborate and deliver projects to our clients on time.
What is most valuable?
The best features Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management offers include a great user experience, as Oracle has invested heavily in user experience. The application is intuitive and user-friendly, and it also includes project budgeting, cost capitalization, expenses, embedded analytics, and data visualizations that come built-in with the software.
The embedded analytics and data visualizations in Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management specifically help us make data-driven decisions from the accurate insights gathered from different sources.
Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management has positively impacted my organization by increasing predictability. It has brought awareness to the executive level with the ability to integrate with other systems, which is flawless and seamless, thus enhancing collaboration in my organization. We have been able to deliver projects on time to our clients, meeting the deadlines and timelines while also hitting the cost timelines. The use of Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management has increased the odds of timely project delivery through efficient tracking. The software supports mobile and tablets with a modern user interface featuring embedded analytics, enabling project team members to access all their tools and information in our organization. The efficiency of project managers has increased, allowing them to manage multiple projects and thereby lowering the cost by approximately thirty percent.
What needs improvement?
Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management can be improved because the cost is a bit high and it is not suitable for those working on a tight budget.
There is room for improvement in Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management's customer service, as it should be more proactive and active, offering support twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
The customer support could be improved as the vendor should enhance their responsiveness and response time.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management since I was a project manager in different organizations and in my current organization, so it has been approximately nine to ten years using this tool.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management's scalability for my organization is highly scalable, with no downtime noticed.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I previously used Microsoft Project .
What was our ROI?
We have seen a return on investment with Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management as we have saved time by being able to deliver our projects on time to our clients, saving both time and cost. Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management has had a measurable return on investment in that a project can be completed on schedule or sooner while using it. It presents data date stamps used to share with clients during the project to indicate the progress of the schedule, though it may have a high level of entry for smaller projects, which can be a hindrance to use.
The thirty percent cost reduction is measured specifically due to the time frame where a project is supposed to meet a certain time frame with a specific budget.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing indicates that the price is a bit costlier compared to other alternatives, especially for teams working on a tight budget, making it not an ideal tool for them.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management, I evaluated other options, particularly why I switched from Microsoft Project to Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management.
I switched from Microsoft Project to Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management because I have used Microsoft Project in the past to do scheduling, and while it is easier to use than Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management, it does not have the same capabilities to determine CPM . Furthermore, it would not be appropriate for larger-sized projects, which is relevant as we are currently dealing with larger projects.
What other advice do I have?
I would add that project scheduling is great, along with resource management, portfolio management, and contract management, progress billing, and the payment application, which are all excellent.
My advice to others looking into using Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management is that it is a scheduling software that is very useful to manage large projects. I have used it inclusively for managing our projects, and it has successfully influenced how projects are sequenced. It is also very easy to use, particularly due to the intuitive user interface, but it is not an ideal project management solution for small organizations, especially those working on a tight budget, because it is a bit expensive.
I have additional thoughts about Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management, stating that I love it because it is powerful enough to identify the longest pathway to project completion. I would rate this product an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Project dashboards have improved planning and give clear insight into timelines and resources
What is our primary use case?
Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management is used by my customers. They utilize the Primavera project scoring feature and they are using the scheduling feature, the comprehensive scheduling feature for project, project control, and the structure organization.
How has it helped my organization?
On analytics for Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management , it helps the owner of the projects to understand, from the office, what’s going on on the ground. It can help them to make better decisions on what to add and where to put more of their resources, either on machinery or on human resource or even laborers. At least it helps them to manage the project and makes their work a bit easier. It even helps with the scheduling of the project and gives them a good estimation of when they can finish the project. It also makes it simpler to build their own Gantt chart because it works almost in the same way as a Gantt chart, giving them a better guideline and projections on when the project can finish and what cost it will incur.
At least they have an idea about their project timeline and budget.
What is most valuable?
Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management has one of the nice dashboards because it gives the company a clear picture on the way a project is going. It knows when the materials are needed, when they need more workforce, and they even have a feature where they can plan their project well and foresee upcoming or unexpected resources that they may need, so it helps them to plan earlier.
What needs improvement?
Project design would be a valuable additional feature to see in the future to make Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management better, along with reporting and BI tools.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management for two years.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate the technical support by Oracle at five out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
One of my clients previously used Microsoft Project Management, and they switched to Primavera, which means it’s more user-friendly, and the reporting and scheduling is better compared to the one that they used to use before.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was a bit complex
What other advice do I have?
I am familiar with Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management. I would give this product an overall rating of eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Ensures data consistency and improves stakeholder transparency while needing pricing adjustments
What is our primary use case?
We try to use Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management combined with Unifier. Unifier is a cost control tool.
It is mostly used in oil and gas, mining, and construction industries, but predominantly in oil and gas and mining.
What is most valuable?
It is beneficial to have the schedule updated so you can have control of the cost. When you have a change in the schedule, you can also make a change in the cost. For us, it is mostly important to control dates and to be on time, but also to know the cash flow.
With both of our clients, they use Power BI extensively. Though it may not be the best solution, they have all the tools connected to Power BI, which they primarily use for reporting.
The integration with Unifier, which is also an Oracle tool, ensures that the data is correct and timely. The connection between Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management and Unifier is not difficult to establish, and the information obtained is really reliable.
What needs improvement?
Because we use mostly P6 and we do not use OPC, which is the new cloud version that is visually easier to use, I would rate it as an eight.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have about two years of experience with Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management. I used to have more experience in ERP systems.
What other advice do I have?
I used to work at Oracle, but I have experience with ERPs and cost control tools.
I am currently implementing more than using the solution.
We work with Unifier and Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management for scheduling, primarily using P6.
While Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management has scoring capabilities, we usually only use the scheduling features such as Gantt charts. We also use the risk management features, but not the scoring component.
For us in LATAM, the pricing is extremely high. That is why I only work with oil and gas and mining industries because they have substantial budgets. It becomes really challenging to work with other industries because the solution is not affordable.
The overall rating for Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management is 8 out of 10.
Enhanced cost tracking and project oversight for large-scale implementations
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case for Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management was during a period when we deployed it for five or six years. We were actively using it without any other tools. It was mainly for managing projects, specifically in the construction and installation phases of instrumentation and controls.
How has it helped my organization?
Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management helped in tracking costs effectively. The cost breakdown structure and work breakdown structures were integrated into their system, making it easier to track costs. This structure allowed me to maintain oversight over budgets while engineers managed tasks and milestones.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features were the cost breakdown structure and work breakdown structure. Additionally, it was considered easy to integrate and secure, and it seemed more suitable for large-scale projects compared to Microsoft Project . It provided me with better control over tracking costs and ensured that tasks and milestones were properly managed by engineers.
What needs improvement?
There is a need for improvement in the interfacing and possibly better integration with other programs. The software could benefit from enhancements that make it more user-friendly for various tasks.
For how long have I used the solution?
I am not sure if we are using it right now, but we had used it around ten years ago.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The usage in our environment was limited, as each engineer managed their own projects, making decisions on whether to use Microsoft Project or Primavera.
How are customer service and support?
Oracle's customer service was good. They supported us during the implementation phase, and whatever integrations we required at the time were well-handled.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
How was the initial setup?
During the setup, my role was to instruct the team to establish a computer maintenance management system. They had the option to choose what they felt comfortable with. In terms of software choice, Primavera was selected for project tracking.
What about the implementation team?
The team members to answer the question of implementation would be better suited as it wasn't directly my task.
What was our ROI?
In terms of return on investment, Primavera was more intuitive for large-scale projects compared to alternatives like Microsoft Project.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Primavera appears to be more expensive than Microsoft Project but potentially less than Maximo. Pricing details from ten years ago are not committed to memory, and I would have to refer back to documentation.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Other solutions we evaluated or used included Microsoft Project and SAP.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management as an eight out of ten.
