See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for each running instance of Rocky Linux from CIQ Pro 9. The price you pay depends only on which EC2 instance type you launch. Each dimension maps to a specific instance type across families like general purpose (m, t), compute (c), memory (r, x, z, u), storage (d, i), and accelerated/GPU (g, p, inf, trn, f, vt) instances. Larger instance sizes carry higher hourly rates, so cost scales with the compute, memory, and hardware of the instance you choose. Billing runs alongside your underlying AWS infrastructure charges, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly charge cover, and am I billed when an instance is stopped?
Each hourly charge covers one running EC2 instance of the licensed operating system. You pay only for hours the instance runs. Stopped or terminated instances stop accruing software charges. Powered-off instances may still incur AWS storage fees, but the software meter counts running time only.
What is included in the software subscription beyond the base operating system?
The subscription includes commercially supported Enterprise Linux with Long-Term Support, FIPS 140-3 validated packages, direct bug fixes, committed CVE response timelines, and indemnification. Bundled GPU drivers for supported accelerators ship pre-integrated. Standard support covers business hours; Premium adds 24x7 response and a named contact.
Which factor drives my hourly cost, and how does it scale as I pick larger instances?
Your cost is driven solely by the EC2 instance type you launch. The software rate is charged per instance-hour and rises with instance size. Larger instances with more compute, memory, or accelerator hardware carry higher hourly rates. This charge runs alongside your separate AWS infrastructure charges.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
