Drupal Commerce - Production-Ready Storefront on AWS
Launch a fully configured Drupal Commerce store on AWS in minutes - no manual installation, no shared credentials, and no complex setup. This AMI eliminates the hours of provisioning normally required to stand up a secure e-commerce environment on the Drupal platform, so your team can focus on products, pricing, and content rather than infrastructure.
Drupal Commerce is the native e-commerce framework for Drupal: a fully open source storefront, shopping cart, catalog, order, checkout, payment, and tax system built directly on the Drupal content management platform. This image ships Drupal Commerce 3.3.8 on Drupal core, with a default store already created so you can add products and start selling immediately.
About cloudimg
cloudimg specializes in pre-configured, production-hardened AMIs for open source platforms on AWS. Our engineering team maintains and supports every image we publish, providing hands-on commerce and CMS expertise rather than generic hosting assistance.
Why This AMI Over Alternatives
Unlike images that ship with default or shared passwords, every instance of this image generates cryptographically fresh MySQL and Drupal administrator credentials on first boot, and installs the Drupal site itself per instance - so the security hash salt, the administrator account, and the database schema are all unique to your deployment. Credentials are stored in a root-only file. No credential is ever reused across deployments.
Application Stack
- Drupal Commerce - Open source storefront, cart, catalog, checkout, payment, and tax
- Drupal core - Enterprise content management foundation
- PHP 8.3 with OPcache and all required Drupal and Commerce extensions (including bcmath for currency arithmetic)
- Apache 2.4 web server with mod_php and clean-URL rewriting
- MySQL 8.0 database server
- Composer dependency manager and drush command line tool for ongoing site administration
Secure First Boot
On first launch, a one-shot systemd service generates unique credentials, provisions the application database, installs Drupal fresh, enables the Commerce modules, and creates the default store. Passwords are written to a file readable only by root. No default credentials exist in the image at any point, closing the security gap present in images that rely on buyers to change shared passwords after deployment.
Host Portable by Design
The storefront derives its base URL from the incoming request, and the trusted host configuration is permissive, so the store answers correctly on the instance public IP, the private IP, or any custom domain you point at it later - with no reconfiguration. The user guide documents tightening the trusted host pattern to your own production domain.
Compatible AWS Services
- Amazon S3 - Offload media and product images with the S3 File System module
- Amazon CloudFront - Global content delivery and DDoS protection in front of the storefront
- Amazon SES - Reliable transactional email for order confirmations, receipts, and password resets
- Amazon RDS - Migrate the local MySQL to a managed database for automated backups and Multi-AZ failover
Security and Hardening
The image is TLS-ready. Buyers should attach an SSL certificate (via AWS Certificate Manager and a load balancer, or Let's Encrypt directly) to enable HTTPS before taking payments. We recommend enabling EBS encryption for data at rest and restricting SSH access to trusted IP ranges. The database port is bound to localhost and is not exposed externally. These controls support buyers working toward PCI-DSS compliance, though buyers remain responsible for their own full assessment.
Use Cases
- Online stores and storefronts - Sell physical or digital products with a full cart and checkout flow
- Content-led commerce - Combine editorial content and merchandising on one Drupal platform
- B2B and B2C catalogs - Product catalog, order management, tax, and payment workflows
- Headless commerce backends - Use Drupal Commerce as an API-driven commerce engine behind a custom frontend

Highlights
- Production-ready Drupal Commerce storefront from first boot - Apache, MySQL 8.0, and PHP 8.3 are pre-installed with a default store, clean URLs, checkout, tax, and currency already configured. Add products and start selling immediately without manually provisioning a LAMP stack or composing Commerce dependencies.
- Unique credentials generated per instance - no shared or default passwords ever exist in the image. On first boot, cryptographically fresh MySQL and Drupal admin passwords are created, the site is installed with a unique security hash salt, and credentials are stored in a root-only file. The database listens only on localhost, supporting buyers working toward PCI-DSS compliance.
- 24/7 cloudimg expert support with one-hour critical response - engineers provide around-the-clock assistance via email and live chat for deployment, upgrades, payment gateway configuration, performance tuning, and database administration.

Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Usage instructions
Connect via SSH on port 22 as the default login user for your operating system variant (the user guide lists it per variant). The storefront is served on port 80. Browse to http://<instance-public-ip>/ and sign in at /user/login as the 'cloudimg' administrator. Retrieve the generated administrator password with: sudo cat /stage/scripts/drupal-commerce-credentials.log. Manage the store from /admin/commerce. To enable HTTPS, follow the Let's Encrypt section of the user guide.
