You pay by the hour for the running software image, billed per EC2 instance. There are no tiers or plans to choose from. Instead, your cost follows the instance type you launch. Each supported EC2 instance type is a separate billing dimension, priced per hour. Smaller instances with fewer resources cost less per hour, while larger compute, memory, storage, or accelerated instances cost more. You select the instance size that fits your workload, and the hourly software charge scales with that choice. Billing runs only while your instance runs, and it stops when you stop the instance.

What exactly am I paying for with the hourly software charge on each instance?
You pay for the pre-packaged LAMP Stack image running on Ubuntu 26.04, hardened with current updates. The charge covers the software layer only. It applies per running EC2 instance, on top of the separate AWS compute and storage fees that AWS bills directly.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software charge accrues only while the instance runs. When you stop the instance, the software charge stops. Underlying AWS storage costs for the volume may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those are billed by AWS, not by this software meter.
Why are there so many instance-type dimensions, and how do I know which one I pay?
Each supported EC2 instance type is its own hourly billing dimension. You are billed only for the instance type you actually launch. Selecting a size with more CPU, memory, storage, or accelerators moves you to a different hourly rate for that instance type.
