You pay by the hour for a hardened Windows Server 2025 image running on Amazon EC2. Pricing is not one flat rate. Instead, each EC2 instance type carries its own hourly charge. The many dimensions here map to specific instance families and sizes, such as general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage, and accelerated types. Larger sizes within a family cost more per hour because they provide more compute, memory, or storage. You choose the instance that fits your workload, and billing scales with the number of hours each running instance uses.

What do I actually get for the hourly charge on each instance type?
You get a hardened Windows Server 2025 image deployed on the Amazon EC2 instance type you select. The image ships with current updates applied. Each instance type maps to a specific set of virtual CPU, memory, and storage resources defined by AWS, and you pay the software rate for every hour that instance runs.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or powered off?
The hourly software charge applies only while an instance is running. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the software fee. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply while the instance is stopped, but the software meter counts running hours only.
How does my cost change if I switch to a larger instance size?
Each instance size within a family carries its own hourly rate. Moving to a larger size raises your hourly charge because it provides more compute, memory, or storage. The change is not automatic. You choose the instance type when you launch, and billing follows that selection for each running hour.

Log in as Administrator
Follow these steps:
Open the Amazon EC2 console, and then choose Instances.
Select the check box for the instance, and then expand the Actions dropdown list. For the old console, choose Get Windows Password. For the new console, choose Security, and then choose Get Windows Password.
Note: When you first launch a new instance, this option might not be available for a few minutes.
Choose Browse, select your key pair file, and then choose Open.

Has the excellent Hyper-V virtualisation hypervisor Can check your system with Best Practice Analyser to see if its optimised easy to add extra roles to your server extremely scalable for small or big requirements Can be deployed by premade images using Azure or other providers if you are using it on the cloud
What do you dislike about the product?
Has the unpopular eccentric User interface used by Windows 8.1, although slightly improved as Start button is back which 2012 and 8 didn't. About to be end of life this (2022) year.
