    Dimensions summary

You pay by the hour for this hardened Windows Server 2022 image, with no upfront commitment. Billing scales by the EC2 instance type you choose to run it on. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size and family — general purpose, compute, memory, storage, GPU, and high-performance options. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry higher hourly rates. Your software cost is charged alongside the separate AWS infrastructure cost for the instance. You can stop running an instance to stop accruing hourly charges, giving you flexible, usage-based pricing.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

One unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you select, billed per hour. The instance family and size (for example general purpose, compute, memory, storage, or GPU) set the hourly rate. Each running instance meters separately. Running two instances bills two hourly rates at once.
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the software fee. Underlying AWS infrastructure costs, such as attached storage, may still apply while the instance is stopped. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly software charge automatically.
Your bill combines the software hourly rate with the separate AWS infrastructure cost for that instance. Moving to a family or size with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware raises both. The change takes effect when you launch the new instance type; there is no automatic upgrade.

Modern security and hybrid cloud integration have transformed our virtualized environment

    Reviewed on Oct 26, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

The use case was that we were using Server 2016 and focused on improving security, hybrid cloud integration, performance, and application modernization.

How has it helped my organization?

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint has helped our enterprise infrastructure as we have been using it alongside Microsoft Intune, utilizing its endpoint security features. This combination provides us with a perfect EDR solution for our Windows environment.

    What is most valuable?

The best features are the security and the hybrid cloud integration. When we integrated this with AWS as well as on the Azure servers we migrated, it was quite smooth without any disconnectivities or issues, unlike the older versions which had such problems. The security is enhanced, and the performance makes it feel as though I am working on a modern user interface that is very fascinating, functioning without lagging in software and applications, which makes it much more robust compared to the older versions.

I find the multi-layered security measures in Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages to be very secure, as Windows Defender is one of the finest anti-malware features added, which alongside TLS makes communication more secure. The encryption now uses SMB AES 256 and the TPM with UEFI Secure Boot are great features of Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages nowadays, which we are currently using.

The hardware root-of-trust and firmware protection in Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages impact my data integrity through secure core protection for supported hardware. We utilize this with secure boot and TPM in a virtualized environment using VMware and Hyper-V, ensuring smooth and robust functioning without the issues faced in earlier versions.

    What needs improvement?

The virtualization with Hyper-V is already improved in Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages, allowing me to run multiple virtual machines on a physical host with ease. My suggestion is about making it more containerized in the manner of other Linux distributions, which could enhance the usage of images and built-in functionalities, especially for users running IIS and .NET applications.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages for around three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the stability of Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages as perfect because we have been using it for around two to three years without facing any issues or slowness, and we consistently update it with the latest from Microsoft.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

From my company, we predominantly use Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages for around 5,000 users with about 100 virtualized servers and around 5 to 10 physical servers. The maintenance is very much easy as many frequent errors from earlier versions have been fixed in Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages, including issues related to .NET and patch updates, making security very much enhanced.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate the technical support for Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages as nine out of ten.

    How was the initial setup?

The installation of Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is very much easy. I install it, take that particular version, partition it, and the installation completes quickly.

    What was our ROI?

In terms of return on investment, we see a favorable outcome because most companies find it user-friendly and are predominantly using it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is average for big companies but may vary for normal businesses.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

When I compare Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages with Ubuntu, Red Hat, or SUSE, I find they are mostly CLI-based, and while we cannot compare their security with Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages, the current version is very much bug-free. In older versions, we faced many issues, but now it uses TLS 1.3 and TPM 2.0, providing enhanced security that makes it feel similar to working in Linux. Moreover, the CLI-based functionality is available in Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages for security, making my overall experience fantastic.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages to other users primarily because it is user-friendly and easy to use, with security issues mostly fixed. It is also compatible with all sorts of hardware, making it easier to replace engineers compared to Linux-based environments.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Centralized domain control has improved security layers and simplifies user and app management

    Reviewed on Oct 22, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My major use case for Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages includes domain control, DNS, DHCP, and normal domain server functions.

    What is most valuable?

I think the best part about Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is its simplicity. It is easy to use and easy to configure.

Good features that I can highlight about Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages are the frequent updates we receive from Microsoft. This is the best feature we have because every now and then there are major attacks in the world, so the updates are very good and they secure the server perfectly.

Multi-layered security is important. If you use single-layer security, you are open to attacks. If you don't have multiple layers, not only software but also hardware, even for firewalls and similar components, you are not fully protected. With multiple layers, you are protected both internally and externally. Multi-layer security is essential to have.

    What needs improvement?

I see that Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages should be more rigid in its core itself. The issue is not only with the server but also with the licensing, because you need a lot of licenses to perform normal processes. You must have licenses for everything to access the features of security and user experience. This should be changed.

I believe Microsoft is working on additional features and integrations in the future. I am hopeful that they will integrate AI into the operating system.

For how long have I used the solution?

I started using Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages approximately in 2014. I have been using Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages for more than five years overall, though I have only been using it at this company for approximately five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I agree that Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is a stable and reliable product 99% of the time. I do not see major glitches or latency problems.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is very scalable.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support from Microsoft is helpful. I can rate the support from Microsoft between eight and nine points.

    How was the initial setup?

I find Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages quite easy to install.

    What was our ROI?

There is value for money with Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages. It gives us ROI on the control of users and to control the applications used. I would say the ROI is approximately 20%.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price for Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is moderate.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Based on my previous experience, since I am using only Windows servers here, I would say Linux is protected in its core and is better than Microsoft from this perspective. However, for the whole system, Microsoft is an easy-to-use software.

What other advice do I have?

We are end-users of Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages. We have Azure, but we have not worked with Azure Arc.

I am working with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint. The effectiveness depends on the license itself because Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is standard and requires an enterprise device or enterprise server in the backend. By having the complete system, it works better compared to other antivirus software. However, if you compare it as an endpoint only, antivirus software like CrowdStrike, Trend Micro, or Kaspersky are better.

I have Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages in both cloud and on-premises environments, so I have a hybrid setup. I have multiple cloud providers, but for Windows, it is Azure. I would give Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages a final rating of nine.

Hybrid servers have streamlined identity management and simplified secure file access

    Reviewed on Oct 15, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

I normally use Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages as a file server or for Windows Active Directory servers, primarily for running the environment and client-server model.

I have Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages deployed in both hybrid environments, on-cloud, and on-premises.

    What is most valuable?

Active Directory is the most prominent feature, and it has great capabilities. I utilize IIS, Active Directory Domain Services, file services, and networking extensively.

I am using Azure Arc, which helps me manage servers across the cloud platform and on-premises, providing the best features to work with this platform.

From a security perspective, there are many solutions available in the market. I use a security solution that is not complete with the Microsoft platform.

I have been working with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, and that is a very good product. It is important to us because we deploy it on the cloud, on the server side, and on the client side, so we use this product across multiple platforms.

I have not used hardware root-of-trust and firmware protection, so I cannot speak to how it impacts data integrity.

    What needs improvement?

Currently, I am not using the server side as much because my primary role has changed to the cloud side. Although I have the knowledge and experience, I use it sometimes, but I am mostly working in the cloud environment.

I always see improvement as an opportunity to improve the products or services, and there is always room for that.

Regarding improvements, I really liked the features for converting Core to Graphics and Graphics to Core that have been removed from future products since 2019.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages since Windows NT, and considering my experience, I have been using it for 10 to 14 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

From a stability perspective, I would rate Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages as an eight.

Downtime has mostly reduced, but when we update patches or the operating system, it requires a reboot. For any configuration, we cannot restore services without a reboot.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is scalable, and I rate it a good number.

How are customer service and support?

Microsoft support is not good. Sometimes we receive a solution before we implement it. Sometimes we search for the Microsoft solution, and in the meanwhile, we find a solution and implement it, so Microsoft help is quite lengthy and delayed. This is the main concern we are facing right now. I rated my experience with Microsoft support as a three, where ten is the best.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Normally, the company started using servers since its journey, and before Windows NT server was available in the market, we also used Novell NetWare, which was the biggest benefit that solution brought to us.

    How was the initial setup?

Installation is simple, whether on Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages side or Linux side, and I do not see much difference in that. Installation is not a big deal.

    What was our ROI?

ROI is very important for every organization and every customer. They are concerned about ROI because if they get more ROI, they are very happy, but if they are not getting that much ROI, they are not happy.

Savings are also important, and operations are important, not just the cost of the product we are purchasing, but also the services we use and how much we can save from fulfilling the requirements to run the product. If we add more products for more features, ROI will definitely become lower.

When we talk about ROI on savings, I can say that I can save 30 to 40 percent.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I believe Linux is always the leader. Whatever products improve or run in the market, Linux is the leader, and I think Microsoft has some competition. Linux has more features than Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages or client operating systems and provides more control and flexibility. I recommend that Linux is the best.

From a security perspective, Linux has more security features and customization, although it is not as user-friendly as Windows.

What other advice do I have?

I rate my overall experience with Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages as an eight.

Improved security and navigation have supported front-end delivery but performance still needs work

    Reviewed on Oct 09, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

I started using Windows Server 2022 in my role to manage a team that works on front-end technologies which is hosted on either Linux or Windows, but my focus is on the front end.

We are using Windows Server 2022 to build applications for customers because our customers need software to be installed. They require automation for business processes, and we use these servers to build those applications.

I have not worked with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint; my team builds applications using front-end technologies such as React JS and Angular JS, and we also build some mobile applications using iOS and Android. We use Windows or Linux to host these applications, and we have mostly moved to cloud services such as AWS.

    What is most valuable?

The biggest advantage of Windows Server 2022 for me is the impressive user experience, especially the navigational aspects, which make it easier to navigate. The reliability and availability part is also good.

Security is very critical for me, particularly because most of our customers are banks and financial institutions, and they want security to be embedded in every layer, whether it's the front end, back end, or the database layer. Security is a must.

Hardware Root-of-Trust and firmware protection are very important for maintaining data integrity because data is the critical source for any business, and I ensure that there is security and that the hardware and firmware are reliable, which I get from reliable partners.

    What needs improvement?

The performance part of Windows Server 2022 can be improved further because, compared to cloud solutions, its performance lags if it is an in-house server that you have installed. The scalability and performance can still be improved because the response times are slower compared to what I get from cloud.

I am not comparing Windows Server 2022 with any specific tools; instead, I am trying to compare it with the requirements given by the customers. Customers state that there is a certain SLA within which I have to deliver the response, and that impacts customer experience.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been dealing with Windows Server 2022 for more than five to ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would agree that Windows Server 2022 is 99 percent stable and reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Windows Server 2022 is scalable. It is not that it is not scalable, but most of the clients prefer AWS for scalability compared to Microsoft.

How are customer service and support?

My thoughts on Microsoft technical support service are that it is good.

I would give Microsoft technical support an eight out of ten.

    How was the initial setup?

The installation and deployment for Windows Server 2022 are straightforward.

    What was our ROI?

The ROI I see with the cost of Windows Server 2022 is that maybe the cost is compensated by the security aspects, and I may have to pay a premium for security, which is why most customers may prefer it. Personally, I prefer Linux because of the performance part of it, but customers may prefer Windows Server 2022 due to the high-security controls in place.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I would say the license for Windows Server 2022 is slightly expensive compared to others in the market.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have been dealing with Linux as a similar product to compare with Windows Server 2022.

The main differences I see between Windows Server 2022 and Linux is that Linux is more widely used, and I think it is because of the performance or the cost; most of my clients prefer Linux-hosted servers, so I would prefer Linux over Microsoft.

What other advice do I have?

I have not worked with Azure Arc.

The deployment model for Windows Server 2022 in my environment is mostly hybrid, specifically private cloud, because financial institutions want high security.

I deal with different cloud providers including Google Cloud, and some clients prefer Azure because of their technologies such as .NET. However, I mostly use AWS and then Azure.

I have more than 15 years of experience with servers and operating systems. I would give Windows Server 2022 a final rating of seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

    Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Hybrid infrastructure has become simpler to manage and security features provide solid protection

What is our primary use case?

Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages serves as an operating system for hosting applications, databases, and similar infrastructure. For the purpose of hybrid cloud integration, we are using Azure Arc. We operate in a hybrid environment, with most infrastructure on-premises, but we maintain some parts in Azure and another infrastructure as a service in one of our markets.

    What is most valuable?

Simplicity and user graphical interfaces represent the best aspects that I found in Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages.

Versatility is one of the main features of Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages.

We started testing approximately a year ago, but we have not seen a significant breakthrough with using this particular feature. It is an interesting feature but nothing more than that.

Native security applications in Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages integrated quite nicely. When you have a native security application in Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages, it consumes fewer resources and does not strain PCs as much as third-party vendors could, which can be quite a burden for computers. Overall, I would say it is an acceptable solution. I would not say it is the best, but it is not the worst.

    What needs improvement?

Security on Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is acceptable, but it can be better.

In the last two years, it is regularly 100 to 500 or 600 or more vulnerabilities per month that have been revealed, patched, or addressed. Additionally, with all of that occurring, it happens quite often that something else becomes broken. As much as we try to secure certain aspects, we end up with things not working. We are running in circles with some aspects. From that point of view, I see that we are moving forward with security, but at the same time, we are regularly finding new holes in the systems.

The improvement area is to test better before pushing something into production. This is the main focus that someone should put emphasis on.

Once you push something and it breaks some of the features, such as what occurred in September or August when you updated Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages and RDP sessions did not work afterward, you basically cut yourself off from connecting to servers and other infrastructure.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages for 15 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate stability at seven out of ten. I would say that stability problems are mostly related to latency. It happens every once in a while that either some of the M365 services or something similar does not work. When we look at Microsoft as a whole, I do see some problems with that.

How are customer service and support?

Customer service really depends on the problem that you have. In some cases, it was very quick and they were really helpful. In some cases, it was not resolved for weeks. I would rate customer service at seven or eight out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did work with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, but we changed it.

    How was the initial setup?

Installation of Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is easy.

    What was our ROI?

We can see a return on investment, but overall, if you are a company like ours, which is not an IT company, this is basically an expense of the company and it is quite difficult to see the return on investment in this regard.

It is quite difficult to track. If we compare it to Linux machines, it is probably easier to handle and easier to manage. You have many more personnel that can work with Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages because it is much harder, at least in Croatia, to find people that are skilled in using Linux. In that regard, it is much easier and cheaper to run Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages in terms of labor cost.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Setup cost is somewhere in between reasonably and expensive.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

In this regard, I would prefer Microsoft.

Linux is complex to handle and requires more people and more expertise. Much more expertise is required for Linux. Documentation and educational resources for Linux are much harder to find than they are for Microsoft technologies.

What other advice do I have?

I currently work with Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages as a customer.

We use AWS but for other purposes, not for infrastructure.

My overall rating for Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is eight out of ten.
