You buy this hardened Oracle Linux 9.8 image by the hour, with no upfront commitment. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, from small general-purpose sizes to large compute, memory, storage, and GPU or accelerator instances. Your hourly software rate depends on the instance type you select. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates than smaller ones. You pay only for the hours each instance runs. Standard AWS infrastructure charges for the instance apply separately. Pick the instance size that matches your workload's compute, memory, or storage needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for a given instance type like m5.large?
One unit is one running EC2 instance of that type for one hour. The rate covers the hardened Oracle Linux 9.8 software license on that instance. Each instance you launch meters its own hours. Running two instances of the same type bills two hourly rates.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
Software charges accrue only while the instance runs. A stopped instance does not add software charges. Underlying AWS storage fees for the volume may still apply, but the software license meters running hours only. You pay for the hours the instance is active.
Is this pay-as-you-go, or do I commit to a fixed term?
This is usage-based billing with no upfront commitment. You launch an instance, run it, and pay the hourly software rate for the hours used. You can stop or change instance types anytime. There is no fixed term or minimum quantity to reserve in advance.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
