Larger instances within a family cost more per hour, matching their added compute, memory, or hardware. You run only what you need and stop billing when you shut the instance down.

You get the hardened Ubuntu 26 image with Docker and Container Guard preinstalled, running on the AWS EC2 instance type you pick. The rate covers the software license only. AWS bills the underlying compute, storage, and network charges separately from this hourly software fee.
The hourly software fee meters running time only. When you stop or shut down an instance, the software charge stops accruing. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those come from AWS, not this software license.
Each instance type maps to its own hourly rate. Larger sizes within a family cost more per hour, matching their added compute, memory, or hardware. Switching families or sizes changes your rate immediately for new running hours. You are billed at the rate of whatever instance is running.

To connect to your instance:
- SSH to the instance using the instance's public IP and log in as the 'ubuntu' user, using the key specified when you launched the instance.
- Once logged in, use the command sudo su - to switch to the root user and get a root prompt.
