    Overview

1-Click-Deployment for your Cloud Linux Desktop

Launch a VM instance with this Amazon Machine Image (AMI) to start your own Linux Desktop in the cloud in less than 5 minutes. This server image provides you with a Xfce Desktop Environment for Red Hat 8. You can connect to the virtual display via RDP or VNC.

To keep the VM as clean as possible we have kept the installation to a minimum (no additional tools were installed other than Mozilla Firefox for internet access so that you can get started with your custom software installations out of the box).

"Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for UNIX-like operating systems. It aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly." - xfce.org

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Usage instructions

For a detailed documentation, please refer to: https://www.silverlining.cloud/docs/aws/rhel-gui

To access the system, use the username 'ec2-user'. The password for both RDP and VNC connections is the same as your Instance ID (for example, 'i-0ed22c98429479e1c').

For RDP access, launch the RDP client on your local machine. Then, connect using the public IP address of your instance, ensuring you're on port 3389. When connecting with Windows Remote Desktop Connection, go to "More Options" and select "Allow me to save credentials." This is the only way the app will prompt you to enter a password.

For VNC access, start the VNC client on your local machine. Proceed by connecting to the public IP address of your instance, making sure to use port 5901.
