AWX extends Ansible's power by providing IT administrators with the option of running Ansible Playbooks using a web user interface. With a few simple clicks, anyone can automate the provisioning and configuration of VMs, Cloud resources, and Software with security and access controls built in. AWX also provides an audit-friendly interface for finance and security teams to audit who did what and when.

You pay by the hour for a preconfigured AWX machine image running on your chosen EC2 instance type. Each dimension maps to a specific instance type, so pricing scales with the compute size and family you select. Options span general-purpose families (t2, t3, t3a, m5, m6 variants) and memory-optimized families (r5, r6, r7 variants). Within each family, sizes range from medium and large to xlarge and 2xlarge. The AWX software rate stays tied to the instance you launch. Standard AWS EC2 infrastructure charges apply separately based on your selected instance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get for the hourly software rate on each instance type?
You get a preconfigured machine image with AWX, an open-source web interface for running Ansible automation playbooks. The image includes an Ansible execution environment and runs on Ubuntu 20.04. Each dimension launches this same software on the EC2 instance type you selected, sized by that instance's compute and memory.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running instance-hours, so a fully stopped instance stops accruing that charge. However, stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage fees for attached volumes. Those infrastructure charges are billed by AWS and are separate from the AWX software rate.
How do the AWX software charge and the AWS infrastructure charge combine on my bill?
Both charges apply at the same time for each running hour. The AWX software rate depends on the instance type you pick. Standard AWS EC2 charges for that instance are billed separately by AWS. Your total per-hour cost is the two added together.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
