AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for AWX, an open-source Ansible Tower alternative, based on the AWS EC2 instance size you run it on. Each dimension maps to one instance type, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, and storage that instance provides. Options span general-purpose instances (t2, t3, t3a), compute-optimized instances (c3, c4), memory-optimized instances (r5), storage-optimized instances (d2, d3), and GPU instances (g5). Larger instances within a family cost more per hour. You are billed only for the hours you run, with no term commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate for each instance type cover, and what does it not include?
The hourly rate covers the AWX software running on your chosen EC2 instance size. It does not include the underlying AWS compute charges for that instance. You pay both the software rate and standard AWS infrastructure fees separately. AWX is an open-source Ansible Tower alternative image.
Am I charged the software fee when the instance is stopped or powered off?
The software fee meters running hours only. When you stop or power off the instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. AWS may still charge underlying storage fees for stopped instances, but the AWX software licence bills active running time.
How do I choose between the general-purpose, compute, memory, storage, and GPU instance options?
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type. General-purpose (t2, t3, t3a) suits balanced workloads. Compute-optimized (c3, c4) favors processing power. Memory-optimized (r5) handles larger jobs. Storage-optimized (d2, d3) suits data-heavy tasks. GPU (g5) supports accelerated workloads. Pick the family matching your automation load.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
