Overview
AWX is an IT Automation platform that provides a Web-UI to run Ansible Playbooks. Ansible is an IT automation software that is used for configuration management, cloud resource provision and application deployment enabling Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for organisations of all sizes.
AWX extends Ansible's power by providing IT administrators with the choice of running Ansible Playbooks using a Web User interface. With a few simple clicks, anyone can automate the provisioning and configuration of VM's, Cloud resources and Software with security and access controls built in as well as provide an audit friendly interface for finance and security teams to audit who did what when.

You pay by the hour for AWX, an open-source Ansible Tower alternative, based on the AWS EC2 instance size you run it on. Each dimension maps to one instance type, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, and storage that instance provides. Larger instances within a family cost more per hour. You are billed only for the hours you run, with no term commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers the AWX software running on your chosen EC2 instance size. It does not include the underlying AWS compute charges for that instance. You pay both the software rate and standard AWS infrastructure fees separately. AWX is an open-source Ansible Tower alternative image.
The software fee meters running hours only. When you stop or power off the instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. AWS may still charge underlying storage fees for stopped instances, but the AWX software licence bills active running time.
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type. General-purpose (t2, t3, t3a) suits balanced workloads. Compute-optimized (c3, c4) favors processing power. Memory-optimized (r5) handles larger jobs.
