MariaDB is a community-developed, commercially supported fork of the MySQL relational database management system.
This Linux image provided is tailored for enterprise-level performance on AWS, containing an installation of MariaDB, the necessary packages to operate an SSH Server and permit user logins. The most recent security updates from the team are incorporated. Root login is deactivated, with only the default user granted access via SSH public key authentication.

Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for MariaDB running on Rocky Linux 8, matched to the ARM-based EC2 instance you choose. The hourly software rate is billed on top of your AWS infrastructure cost. Prices scale with instance size and family. Smaller sizes like medium and large cost less per hour, while larger sizes such as 8xlarge and 16xlarge cost more. Instance families cover general purpose (m and t), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r and x2gd), and storage or graphics options (i, im, is, g5g). You add the software support, hardening, and on-demand assistance Apollo provides.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the size you select, billed per hour. You pay the software rate for every hour that instance runs. The count is per instance, so running several instances multiplies the hourly software charge across all of them.
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue the Apollo software charge. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while stopped, but that is separate from the software fee billed here.
You get MariaDB preconfigured on Rocky Linux 8, hardened using standard security frameworks like STIG and NIST. Apollo also provides on-demand support through email, phone, and chat, with responses targeted within 24 hours. The software charge is added on top of your AWS infrastructure cost.
