You pay by the hour for a Fedora 40 (x86_64) machine image with vendor support. Pricing is usage-based, so you are billed only for the hours each instance runs. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, such as general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, or GPU and accelerator families. The hourly software rate scales with the instance size you pick, from small burstable types up to large multi-core options. You choose the instance type that fits your workload, and larger instances carry higher hourly rates. AWS infrastructure charges apply separately.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
You get a Fedora 40 (x86_64) machine image with vendor support, running on the EC2 instance type you select. The dimension name, such as m6a.xlarge or t3.small, maps to that instance's CPU, memory, and storage profile. The rate covers the software and support only.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters only running hours. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Note that AWS may still bill separately for attached storage while the instance is stopped. The software license charges resume when you start the instance again.
How does the software charge combine with the AWS instance cost on my bill?
Two charges apply per running hour and add together. The Fedora software and support rate depends on the instance type you pick. The AWS infrastructure charge for that same instance is billed separately by AWS. Larger instance types carry higher rates on both lines.
