64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Customer reviews
Automated backups have strengthened our AWS disaster recovery and improved customer service continuity
What is our primary use case?
We used N2W primarily as part of our wider disaster recovery (DR) strategy in the business as a way to protect assets in AWS and to automatically schedule utilization of resources.
How has it helped my organization?
N2W greatly improved our resilience to potential loss of services and allowed us to strengthen our service offering for our customers.
What is most valuable?
The biggest feature set is the integration with AWS and the ability to easily point and click backup policies both in-region, cross region, as well as cross account. It also allows us to test the posture of the policies by performing restore tests to establish recovery point objective (RPO) and recovery time objective (RTO).
What needs improvement?
There is room for improvement in the S3 storage backup for S3-backed services such as AWS Transfer Family.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for five years.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We relied solely on AWS in-region snapshots and disaster recovery, which we felt left us exposed before implementing N2W.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing for N2W is a fixed cost based on the edition you want to use. All I would suggest is keeping an eye on billing in AWS, as N2W leverages AWS services such as the N2W instance hosting and storage. This activity can be managed by the policies and AWS to ensure that the costs stay within budget.
What other advice do I have?
Whenever we had technical issues, the support team was very responsive and great to assist and would usually always resolve the issue.
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Automated backups and scheduling have protected all resources and saved thousands in monthly costs
What is our primary use case?
We have been using N2W Backup & Recovery for six years to manage snapshots, AMIs, and for scheduled resource control.
How has it helped my organization?
I absolutely love this software and the peace of mind it brings to me and my organization. Having the ability to automatically add resources to different backup policies with some simple tagging ensures that none of our infrastructure is left unprotected. We can also use those tags to control resources by shutting them off when not in use.
This has enabled our organization to save thousands of dollars each month by simply having policies in place to shut down development environments during the evenings and weekends when they are not in use. We have never had a restore fail us, whether an object level restore, restoring a volume from snapshot, or restoring an entire server from an AMI. N2W keeps all tags, IAM roles, Security Groups, etc., intact when restoring from an AMI, making restores quick and painless.
This is a necessity when I have several test and development environments that need to be rolled back to a previous version or configuration.
What is most valuable?
Tag-based backup with guardrails and a tagging policy means that newly created infrastructure is automatically added to the correct backup policy, and I never have to worry about unprotected resources. The resource control is also invaluable to us, as it allows me to shut down infrastructure when it is not needed, saving thousands in costs each month.
What needs improvement?
An additional feature within resource control would be to automatically downgrade volumes to a cheaper storage tier through a policy or when instances are stopped via the resource manager.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for six years.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The N2W pricing model is based on how many resources you protect. The bulk of your costs will come through as infrastructure costs, however, such as snapshots, AMIs, storage, etc.
Automated backups have improved disaster recovery and provide reliable cross-region protection
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case is automated backup and disaster recovery for AWS workloads across multiple accounts and regions.
We use N2WS to protect EC2 instances, EBS volumes, and critical application data, with a strong focus on cross-region backups for disaster recovery scenarios.
How has it helped my organization?
N2WS has significantly improved our backup reliability and reduced administrative overhead.
Automated policies ensure consistent backups without manual intervention, and recovery processes are fast and predictable.
It has strengthened our disaster recovery posture, giving us confidence that we can quickly restore services in case of failure or regional outages.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features for us are cross-region and cross-account backup, flexible scheduling and retention policies, and fast recovery capabilities.
The ability to orchestrate backups across multiple AWS accounts from a single interface is particularly useful.
Lifecycle management and cost optimization features also help reduce storage costs while maintaining compliance.
What needs improvement?
While the platform is strong overall, the user interface could be further modernized and made more intuitive in certain areas, especially when navigating complex environments.
Reporting and analytics could also be enhanced to provide more detailed insights and easier customization.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used N2WS for 8 years.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Improved reporting dashboards with more granular filtering, better alerting and notification customization, and deeper integration with third-party monitoring tools would be valuable.
Enhanced automation and API capabilities for complex workflows would also be a welcome addition.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Pricing is reasonable considering the features provided, especially for organizations heavily invested in AWS.
The cost savings from automation and lifecycle management can offset the licensing cost.
It is important to properly plan backup policies to optimize storage usage and avoid unnecessary expenses.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated AWS-native solutions and other third-party backup tools.
Ultimately, N2WS stood out due to its ease of use, strong feature set focused on AWS, and cost-effectiveness compared to more complex enterprise solutions.
What other advice do I have?
N2WS is a mature and reliable solution that delivers strong value for AWS backup and disaster recovery.
It is especially well-suited for organizations managing multi-account environments.
My advice would be to invest time in properly designing backup policies from the start to fully leverage its capabilities and maximize cost efficiency.
