This software is free to license, so the vendor charges nothing for the product itself. You pay only for the AWS EC2 instance you run it on, billed hourly. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, and the list spans many families and sizes. These include general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, GPU, and high-performance options, from small shared instances up to bare-metal servers. Your hourly rate depends on which instance type you pick. Larger or specialized instances carry higher rates. You run DragonVPN as your own personal VPN server on the chosen instance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly dimension actually cover for billing?
Each dimension maps to one AWS EC2 instance type. You are billed for every hour that instance runs DragonVPN. The rate reflects the instance you pick, not the number of users or VPN connections. Larger or specialized instances carry higher hourly rates. The software itself adds no charge.
Am I charged when my VPN instance is stopped or powered off?
Hourly charges apply only while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance does not accrue hourly software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS fees, such as storage for a stopped instance. The kill switch feature spins servers up and down, so you pay only for running hours.
How do I choose between the many instance types on the list?
Pick the instance family and size that fits your traffic needs. General-purpose and small shared types suit light personal use. Compute, memory, storage, GPU, and bare-metal types handle heavier loads. Your hourly rate follows that choice. A personal VPN server usually runs fine on a smaller instance.
