Usage instructions
Use the AWS Console to get the EC2 instance public DNS name or download the RDP file for the instance. Use RDP to access the EC2 instance with user name and password you specified during deployment.
Upon login an installation script will run in PowerShell, do not close the script before it is finished. The script installs all prerequisites for XProtect, any optional features selected in the CloudFormation stack creation (Storage Bridge and RDS) and launches the XProtect installer. Once the installer is started follow the regular XProtect installation process. It is important to transfer your license file to the device as it is required during the installation and cannot be added after. When the XProtect installer is finished the script continues the final configurations, let it run until it prompts for a restart by "pressing any key". After the device has restarted the setup is complete.
External Dependencies Disclosure:
- This product requires internet connectivity during initial deployment to download the SqlServer PowerShell module from PowerShell Gallery
- If Storage Bridge feature is enabled, ongoing connections to AWS S3 services are required
- All external dependencies are publicly available and require no additional customer payments

What do you like best about the product?
The scalability of the Xprotect architecture is what has allowed our security operation to grow from a handful of cameras to a enterprise wide deployment without replacing any of the foundational infrastructure we built on initially. Adding new sites and camera feeds into an existing installation is straightforward enough that our facilities team handles routine expansions independently without pulling in specialist integrators for every change. The open platform approach has also meant that hardware choices have remained ours to make rather than being dictated by a closed ecosystem that limits options and inflates costs over time.
What do you dislike about the product?
The licensing model adds a layer of cost complexity that requires careful planning and can produce surprises during expansion if device counts are not tracked meticulously from the outset.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Managing physical security across multiple sites with different camera infrastructures and no unified monitoring layer was creating blind spots that our security team could not confidently account for during incident investigations. Xprotect consolidated everything into one management interface and the ability to pull footage from any site without switching between systems has meaningfully improved both our incident response capability and the quality of the evidence our security team can produce when an investigation requires it. Insurance and compliance conversations have also become considerably more straightforward since we can demonstrate consistent monitoring coverage across our entire estate rather than describing a patchwork of disconnected systems.
