What does one hourly unit cover, and what am I actually paying for per instance type?
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type running the pre-packaged Keycloak image on Windows Server 2022. You pay the software rate for every hour that instance runs. The rate reflects the compute and memory of the size you launch. Larger sizes carry higher hourly rates.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you restart the instance.
If I need more compute later, do I switch instance types or pay extra?
You change your bill by launching a different instance size, since each dimension is a separate hourly rate. Moving to a larger size raises the hourly rate; moving to a smaller one lowers it. The change is manual — you select the instance type when you launch.
