You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you choose to run this PostgreSQL software. The 14 dimensions are not feature tiers; they are different compute sizes. Options range from small burstable instances like t3.micro and t2.small to general-purpose and compute-optimized sizes such as m5.large, m6a.large, and c6a.large. Larger instances carry more vCPU and memory, so your hourly rate scales with the compute capacity you select. Pick the size that fits your database workload. The vendor recommends t3.small as a baseline. You can stop the instance to pause charges.

What do I actually get when I pay the hourly rate for a chosen instance type?
You get a pre-configured PostgreSQL server running on Ubuntu on the EC2 instance size you select. Each hour of running time meters the software charge for that size. The image supports both relational (SQL) and non-relational (JSON) queries and includes automated backups to an Amazon S3 bucket you name.
Am I still charged the hourly rate when I stop the instance?
The software charge meters running time only. When you stop the instance from the EC2 console, the hourly software charge pauses. You can restart it later. Note that stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees, and your S3 backup storage is billed separately by AWS.
Can I switch to a different instance size after I deploy?
Yes. The 14 dimensions are separate compute sizes, not locked feature tiers. You deploy through a CloudFormation stack where you pick the instance type. To move to another size, you redeploy with a different selection. Your hourly rate then follows the new size's vCPU and memory.
