You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance type you run MayaScale on. Each dimension maps to a specific storage-optimized instance with local NVMe devices. Larger instances carry more CPU, memory, and NVMe capacity, so your hourly rate scales with the size you choose. There are no tiers or plans to pick between. You deploy into your own account and select the instance that fits your throughput, latency, and capacity needs, and billing follows usage hours.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing cover for each instance dimension?
Each dimension bills per running hour of one EC2 instance of that type. The instance provides local NVMe devices that MayaScale uses for block and file storage. Larger sizes carry more CPU, memory, and NVMe capacity. You choose the instance family and size that fits your throughput and capacity needs.
Am I charged for MayaScale when an instance is stopped or powered off?
Software charges meter running instance-hours. A stopped instance does not accrue MayaScale hourly charges. Note that local NVMe devices are temporary storage, so data on a stopped or interrupted instance can be lost. Deploy a 2-node high-availability pair to guard against that.
If I run a high-availability setup, how does that affect what I pay?
High availability uses two instances configured as an active-active pair with mirrored writes and automatic failover. You pay the hourly rate for each instance you run. So a 2-node pair bills for both instances by the hour, based on the instance types you select.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
To use MayaScale you will need to take the following steps:
Launch the AMI and subscribe
Launch a storage optimized Instance using your key pair
To access the Web GUI from within your VPC, point a browser window to http://<instance-private-ip>:2020 and login using username admin and password as the instance ID ( value that starts with i- ). The recommended security group allows port 2020 only from the private CIDR range.
To access the Web GUI from outside the VPC, open an SSH tunnel instead of
exposing port 2020 publicly:
ssh -i <your-key>.pem -L 2020:localhost:2020 ec2-user@<instance-public-ip>
Then browse to http://localhost:2020
To change the default password connect to the launched instance using SSH as user ec2-user and set the password for Web Administration Console by running
ec2-user$ sudo /opt/mayastor/web/changepass.sh
