Deploy a Complete Open Source ERP in Minutes
Odoo Community Edition delivers CRM, sales, accounting, inventory, manufacturing, e-commerce, project management, and human resources in a single web interface. This AMI arrives fully installed and configured on AWS so your team can sign in and start managing business operations without manual setup.
Who This Is For
Small and mid-sized businesses (5-200 employees) looking to self-host a unified ERP on AWS. Operations managers and IT leads who want full control over their business data without the complexity of assembling an application stack from scratch. Services firms that need project tracking and invoicing in one dashboard, or e-commerce retailers unifying order management, inventory, and accounting under a single system.
Example Scenario
A growing online retailer launches this AMI on a single EC2 instance. Within minutes they sign in, install the Sales, Inventory, and Accounting modules, and connect their storefront. Orders flow into Odoo, inventory levels update automatically, and month-end reconciliation happens in the same interface - eliminating the need to synchronize data across separate tools.
Application Stack
- Odoo Community Edition - full-featured ERP application server on port 8069
- PostgreSQL from the official PGDG repository - production-grade relational database
- nginx reverse proxy with websocket and longpolling endpoints configured for live chat and real-time notifications
- systemd service unit preconfigured and enabled at boot
Separate Data Volumes - Scale Without Downtime
The database and application filestore each run on their own EBS gp3 volume, independent of the OS disk. This means you can resize PostgreSQL storage as your data grows or expand the Odoo filestore for attachments - without stopping the instance or risking the operating system. You can also snapshot each volume independently for targeted backups and faster restores.
Secure First Boot - No Default Passwords
On first boot a one-shot service generates a unique Odoo master password and a unique admin account password for that instance, creates the initial database, and writes credentials to /root/odoo-credentials.txt (readable only by root). No shared or default credentials ship in the image. This eliminates the credential-stuffing risk common on AMIs that reuse static passwords across every deployment.
Network and Encryption Practices
- nginx is configured to proxy HTTPS traffic; attach your own TLS certificate or use AWS Certificate Manager with a load balancer for encryption in transit.
- EBS gp3 volumes support AWS-managed encryption at rest - enable it at launch to protect financial, HR, and customer data stored in PostgreSQL and the Odoo filestore.
- Deploy within a VPC using private subnets and security groups that restrict inbound access to ports 80/443 (web) and 22 (SSH administration only from trusted IPs).
Ready To Use
Browse to the instance address, sign in with the credentials from /root/odoo-credentials.txt, and install the modules your business needs - Sales, CRM, Accounting, Inventory, Manufacturing, and many more. Configure your company details and begin operations immediately.
