You pay by the hour for this Ubuntu operating system image, with your rate set by the AWS EC2 instance type you run. Each dimension maps to one instance type, so there are no plans or tiers to choose between. Smaller instances like t3.nano or t3.micro carry lower hourly rates, while large compute, memory, storage, and accelerated instances like c8i.96xlarge or m8id.metal-96xl carry higher rates. Your cost scales with the size and family of the instance you select. Hourly software charges apply on top of standard AWS infrastructure charges. Support is included with the image.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate for each instance type actually cover?
The hourly rate covers the Ubuntu operating system image plus vendor support. It does not include the underlying AWS compute charge for the EC2 instance. You pay the software rate for your chosen instance type on top of standard AWS infrastructure charges.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when my instance is stopped?
The software fee meters running instance-hours. A fully stopped instance does not accrue hourly software charges. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the vendor's hourly software charge applies only while the instance runs.
What support comes with the image and how do I reach it?
Each running instance includes vendor support at no separate line item. The images are patched and updated regularly. You can reach technical support by email around the clock. Support scope is the same across every instance type; only the hourly rate changes with the instance you run.
