CloudFormation template deploys a complete Flex environment on AWS
This CloudFormation template automates the deployment of a full Flex environment on AWS. It provisions networking resources such as a VPC, public and Flex-specific subnets, internet gateway or NAT gateway depending on public IP requirements, and corresponding route tables. It creates an EC2 instance configured for the Flex application, optionally with a public IP, and sets up a dedicated network interface attached to the instance. Security is managed via a security group allowing SSH and HTTPS access from specified IP ranges. The template also creates an IAM role, instance profile, and policies with fine-grained permissions to manage EC2 resources tagged for the Flex deployment. During instance startup, a script sets the admin password if provided, fetches and deploys the latest Flex application manifests, configures the instance for Kubernetes deployment, and signals completion back to CloudFormation. Outputs include VPC ID, subnet IDs, EC2 instance ID and IPs, and availability zone for easy integration into other stacks.
CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."

Usage instructions
Deploy the CloudFormation Template: Launch this CloudFormation template in your AWS account. During deployment, provide values for networking (VPC, subnets, availability zone), EC2 instance type, SSH key pair, and admin credentials. The template will create all necessary resources and automatically install Flex on the EC2 instance.
Access the Flex Instance: Once deployment completes, use the provided public or private IP to SSH into the Flex instance using the admin credentials. The instance will already have Flex installed and running.
Set Up Your Initial Flex Cluster: To initialize your cluster, you will need a cluster configuration file. This file is required to configure your Flex environment and must be provided by Silk. Follow Silk's instructions to apply this configuration and complete the cluster setup.
This deployment only installs the Flex environment. The initial cluster cannot be created without the cluster configuration file provided by Silk. Ensure you have this file before attempting cluster setup.
