Highlights
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Compatibility and Broad Support: Oracle Linux 8.10 is 100% application binary compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). This provides a flexible and compatible environment for businesses that have existing RHEL-based applications or want to leverage the broader RHEL ecosystem. While Oracle Linux includes its own optimized UEK, it also offers a Red Hat Compatible Kernel (RHCK) as an alternative, giving users flexibility.
Advanced Security with Ksplice and SELinux: Security is a major focus with Oracle Linux 8.10. It comes with SELinux (Security-Enhanced Linux) enabled by default, providing granular access control and a strong security posture. A standout feature is Ksplice, which allows for zero-downtime kernel updates and security patching.
Optimized for AWS and Cloud-Native Features: Oracle Linux 8.10 AMIs are specifically tailored for AWS deployments. They often include pre-installed AWS tools like the AWS CLI v2, Systems Manager Agent, and CloudWatch Agent, streamlining management and monitoring within the AWS ecosystem.

You pay by the hour for this preconfigured Oracle 8.10 image, billed per running instance. Pricing is tied to the EC2 instance type you select, so your rate scales with the compute size you choose. Smaller shared instances like t2.nano or t3.micro carry lower hourly rates, while large memory, storage, GPU, and bare-metal types such as u7in-32tb.224xlarge or p5.48xlarge cost more per hour. You choose the instance that fits your workload, and the software rate is added on top of standard AWS infrastructure charges. There are no upfront commitments or fixed terms.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
You get a preconfigured Oracle 8.10 image running on the EC2 instance you select. Each instance type sets the compute, memory, and storage you receive. The hourly software rate covers the packaged image; the underlying AWS compute is billed separately at standard rates.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when my instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Stopped instances may still incur standard AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are separate from the software rate you pay here.
How does my bill combine the software charge and the AWS compute charge?
Two charges apply at once. The hourly software rate for the Oracle 8.10 image is added on top of the standard AWS charge for the instance type you run. Both scale with the instance size you pick and appear together on your AWS invoice.
