Overview
Deploy a self-hosted UniFi® Network Server (formerly the UniFi Network Controller) on AWS in minutes. Built for MSPs, IT teams and multi-site businesses who want to manage UniFi access points, switches and gateways from their own cloud infrastructure, exposing a home server, or hand-building the MongoDB and Java stack the application requires. This image ships a hardened OS base with all prerequisites staged; on first boot it installs the latest UniFi Network Application directly from Ubiquiti's official repository.

A cloud-hosted controller gives every site a single, always-reachable management plane. Remote APs adopt over the internet via the inform URL, firmware and provisioning roll out centrally, and you keep full ownership of the controller data backups, retention and access are on your terms.

Sizing guidance
Up to ~50 devices: t3.large. Up to ~250 devices: t3.xlarge. Larger estates or heavy DPI/statistics retention: t3.2xlarge with Premium SSD.
Usage notes
- Attach an IAM instance role with the AWS-managed policies CloudWatchAgentServerPolicy and AmazonSSMManagedInstanceCore to activate CloudWatch and Session Manager. No AWS credentials are stored on the image.
- Browse to https://:8443 (self-signed certificate) and complete the UniFi setup wizard; controller data lives under /usr/lib/unifi/data, logs under /var/log/unifi.
- Ports: 22/tcp (SSH), 8443/tcp (web UI), 8080/tcp (device inform), 3478/udp (STUN).

Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the AWS EC2 instance that runs this self-hosted UniFi Network controller image. The dimensions are not feature tiers. Instead, each one maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the compute size you pick. Options span burstable t2, t3, and t3a families for lighter workloads and memory-optimized r5, r5a, r5b, r5d, r5dn, r5n, r5ad, r6a, r6i, r6id, r6idn, r6in, and gr6 families, up to bare-metal sizes. Larger instances cost more per hour. The software itself is identical across every size.

Each dimension maps to one running AWS EC2 instance of that specific type, billed per hour. The rate reflects that instance's compute and memory size. You run the self-hosted UniFi Network controller image on the size you choose. Software charges accrue for each hour the instance runs.
The software meters running instance-hours. A fully stopped instance does not accrue hourly software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS fees for attached storage and other resources that persist while the instance is stopped. Billing resumes when you start the instance again.
You pick the instance type at launch, and its family sets your hourly rate. To change size, you stop the instance and relaunch or resize to another supported type. The controller software stays identical across sizes, so only your hourly rate changes. The documentation covers migration and backups.
