You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance type you choose to run the UniFi Network Server. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS instance size, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, and storage of that instance. Options span general-purpose (t2, t3, t3a, m1, m2, m3, c4) and memory-optimized (r5 family) instances in sizes from medium up to 2xlarge. You are not locked into a fixed tier. Instead, you match the instance to your workload and adjust capacity as your network grows. Larger or more memory-rich instances carry higher hourly rates.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get for the hourly rate on each instance dimension?
Each dimension launches one EC2 instance running the UniFi Network Server software. The instance type sets your CPU cores, memory, and storage. General-purpose types balance compute and memory. Memory-optimized r5 types give more RAM per core. You match the instance size to your network's device count.
Am I charged when I stop or pause my instance?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volume while the instance sits stopped. Charges resume the hour you start the instance again.
Do I commit upfront, or can I change instance sizes as my network grows?
You pay as you go by the hour with no upfront commitment. You are not locked into a fixed size. As your network grows, you can launch a larger instance type. Larger or more memory-rich instances carry higher hourly rates, so your bill scales with the size you run.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
