This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply (PAYG) for Extended Security Updates - which extends the 6 month minor version lifecycle to at least six years, FIPS 140-3 validated cryptographic modules, and access to TuxCare's award winning Enterprise Support for AlmaLinux.
Highlights
Enduring security and compliance for FIPS-validated deployments that extends the lifecycle of specific AlmaLinux minor versions.
Long-term High and Critical security updates + full suite of five FIPS-validated modules (kernel, OpenSSL, libcrypt, nss and gnutls)

You pay by the hour for AlmaLinux 9.6 Extended Security Updates with FIPS support. Billing is usage-based, so charges accrue only while an instance runs. Each pricing dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, such as c6a.large, r8i.32xlarge, or t3.medium. The per-hour rate scales with the size and class of the instance you choose. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates than smaller ones in the same family. You select the instance type that fits your workload and pay the matching hourly rate. No upfront commitment or fixed term applies.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly charge cover beyond the AlmaLinux operating system itself?
The charge covers Extended Security Updates with FIPS support from TuxCare. This includes FIPS-validated cryptographic modules for the kernel and OpenSSL, plus ongoing security patches that keep those modules aligned with the validated status needed for federal compliance.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or powered off?
The software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Charges resume when you start the instance again. Note that underlying AWS storage costs for a stopped instance are separate and fall outside this software rate.
Why does each EC2 instance type have its own separate hourly rate?
Each dimension maps to one instance type, such as c6a.large or r8i.32xlarge. The hourly rate scales with instance size and class. You pay the rate matching the type you launch. Running several instances bills each one independently at its own rate, added together on one invoice.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
