You pay by the hour for a machine image running .NET 8 on hardened Windows Server 2016. Pricing is not tiered by features. Instead, you pick the AWS EC2 instance type that matches your needs, and the hourly software rate follows that choice. Options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and GPU or accelerated instance families, in sizes from nano and micro up through 6xlarge and 8xlarge. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry higher hourly rates. You run and pay only while an instance is active, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
You get a ready-to-run machine image with .NET 8 on hardened Windows Server 2016, sized to the EC2 instance you pick. The instance name maps to a set amount of CPU, memory, and any specialized hardware like GPUs or local storage. One running instance is billed per hour.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when an instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running time only. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue software charges. Underlying AWS storage fees for the attached disk may still apply while the instance exists. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
Does choosing a bigger instance change what features I get, or just the rate?
Features stay the same across all instance types. Every option runs the same hardened .NET 8 on Windows Server 2016 image. Only the compute resources change. A larger instance gives more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware and carries a higher hourly rate for that added capacity.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources.
