This lightweight and secure Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.2 image is built from the official ISO image, stripped down to include only the essential packages and required AWS software to make it integrate seamlessly into the AWS infrastructure (AWS CLI, Elastic Network Adapter & NVMe drivers). This results in a minimal image that is fast to boot, reduces storage requirements, and optimizes responsiveness. The image is updated with the latest security patches and updates, providing protection against emerging vulnerabilities and ensuring the stability and reliability of your server environment. Also Red Hat Update Infrastructure is configured and ready to use without the need of a RedHat subscription or high costs of data traffic over the internet package installation and updates. Other features: key based authentication with 'ec2-user' username, cloud-init and SELinux enabled, root login disabled, automatic root disk resize based on the instance volume configuration. Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.2 EUS, and the rate depends on which AWS EC2 instance type you run. Each dimension maps to a single instance type, from small burstable sizes like t2.nano and t3.micro up to large memory, compute, storage, and accelerated types such as x2iedn.metal, c7i.48xlarge, and p5.48xlarge. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or GPU capacity carry higher hourly rates. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs. Software updates come through the built-in RHUI at no extra cost.

Each dimension maps to one running EC2 instance of that type. The hourly rate covers the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.2 EUS software licence for one instance. If you run several instances, each accrues its own hourly charge based on its instance type.
The software rate meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You are billed only for the hours each instance actually runs. Underlying AWS storage or other AWS fees may still apply while an instance is stopped.
No. RHUI is configured in the image, so it keeps the running instance up to date at no added cost. Update delivery is included in the hourly rate you pay for each instance type. The image also ships with security updates available at its release date.

Usage instructions
To connect to the VM:
- Use SSH to connect
- Username provisioned inside is: 'ec2-user'
- Use the SSH key provided at the launch of the instance
- Run 'sudo su -' to get a root prompt

Check the health and functionality of the virtual machine you have just launched:

- Select 'Instances' from the left menu and click on the newly launched instance
