    Overview

    Play video

Apache Tomcat is an open-source implementation of Jakarta Servlet, Jakarta Pages, Jakarta Expression Language, Jakarta WebSocket, Jakarta Annotations, and Jakarta Authentication specifications. Developed by the Apache Software Foundation community and released under the Apache License 2.0, Tomcat provides a focused server runtime for Java web applications and HTTP services built against the specifications supported by the selected Tomcat release line. Applications can be deployed as web archives or exploded application directories and configured through Tomcat's documented server, connector, host, context, realm, logging, and management facilities. This image provides a Tomcat foundation on Aws; application artifacts, Java runtime compatibility, connector settings, TLS certificates, secrets, identity integration, database connectivity, session strategy, logging, monitoring, backups, scaling, and release automation remain customer responsibilities. Tomcat major versions implement different Jakarta EE or Java EE specification generations, and namespace compatibility can affect application deployment. Verify the application's API requirements, supported Java version, migration needs, and current Tomcat security notices before choosing or upgrading a release. Remove or secure management applications, use least-privilege service accounts, restrict network access, and do not retain default credentials in production.
