Innovative, Tailored Updates—Though Configuration Is Still Clunky

What do you like best about the product?
I like how innovative Workday HCM is. The changes are generally things customers want and need, and usually don’t come at an extra cost; I appreciate getting new features when we need them. Features tailored to law firms and to how we recruit, hire, and onboard people are really helpful. They give us insights and make it easier to report on things we couldn’t report on before, so those tasks are becoming easier and more efficient over time. I think the new organizational hierarchy, its AI and self-service agent interface, and the reporting and insights into organizational flow will be really helpful. The job architecture assistance and analysis features are helpful as we reorganize our job architecture, and the deployment agent fits with our upcoming Workday Recruiting deployment. I also appreciate the new change job templates because they reduce the number of fields users have to review based on the job or change type.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find configuration takes too many clicks and has steps that don’t make much sense to me. It isn’t intuitive or easy to remember how to navigate tasks that require edits in multiple places or which field operators to use. I think the interface could be clearer, with highlighted buttons and clearer guidance on which fields are required. I also have to open a separate tab and pull a report to find instructions about reports, functions, business objects, and how they connect. Having more of that information right in the tasks and configuration pages would make things easier for me.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Workday HCM to manage our workforce, payroll, and recruiting. Its law-firm-focused updates fit how we recruit, hire, and onboard, provide tailored insights, and make reporting—especially on organizational hierarchy—easier. Job architecture, deployment, and change job template features support our needs, and needed updates are usually free.

A lot of the different modules seemingly don't talk to each other, in one area it behaves one way in another it behaves differently.

What do you like best about the product?
It can connect all of our HR processes and make them feel like one seamless, connected experience. Beyond that, Workday keeps innovating at a pace I haven’t seen from other HR systems providers. It’s rarely a flat “no”; instead, there’s usually a roadmap for what’s coming next, or an alternative approach you may not have explored yet. And for something as big as Workday, it still feels like a small but powerful community.
What do you dislike about the product?
The security aspects are complex. While they’re necessary, they can feel overwhelming at times. Hopefully, there’s an agent to handle that!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
An integrated platform for HR and Finance. Now we’re all speaking the same language—at least from a data perspective—which makes it much easier to stay aligned.
