You pay by the hour for each Arm-based Graviton EC2 instance running Ubuntu Pro 26.04 LTS. Each dimension maps to a specific instance type, such as general-purpose (m-series), compute-optimized (c-series), memory-optimized (r- and x-series), or storage-optimized (i-series). Pricing scales with instance size and vCPU count, so a larger instance costs more per hour than a smaller one. Metering is by usage, with no upfront commitment. The Ubuntu Pro charge is added on top of your standard EC2 cost. Pick the instance type that fits your workload's compute, memory, or storage needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Ubuntu Pro pricing is based on the instance's vCPU count and metered by the second. Larger instances with more vCPUs cost more per hour. This charge is separate from and added on top of your standard EC2 instance cost.
The Ubuntu Pro charge meters running instance time by the second. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the software charge. Note that separate AWS storage fees for the underlying volume may still apply while the instance is stopped.
Ubuntu Pro adds security patches for infrastructure and hundreds of open source applications, FIPS 140-3 and Common Criteria EAL2 certified components, optional CIS and DISA STIG hardening, and Kernel Livepatch for updates without reboot. Coverage runs up to 15 years.
