AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for each running instance, with no upfront commitment. The rate is tied to the EC2 instance type you launch, so pricing scales with instance size and vCPU count. Each dimension here maps to one instance type across families like c5, c6i, m5, r5, t3, g5, and specialized memory or GPU options. Larger instances within a family carry a proportionally larger hourly rate. Billing is metered by usage and appears on your existing AWS invoice. You can reduce cost through AWS Savings Plans.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What determines the hourly rate for each instance type dimension?
The rate is based on the instance's vCPU count. Ubuntu Pro pricing scales with instance size, so a larger instance within a family carries a proportionally larger hourly software charge. Each dimension maps to one specific EC2 instance type, metered by the second and added to your compute cost.
Am I charged for an instance that is stopped or powered off?
The software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue Ubuntu Pro hourly charges. You may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volumes, but the per-hour software rate applies just while the instance runs.
How does the Ubuntu Pro charge combine with my regular EC2 compute cost?
Two charges apply for each running instance. You pay the EC2 compute rate to AWS and the Ubuntu Pro software rate shown here. Both are metered by usage and appear together on your existing AWS invoice. The Ubuntu Pro portion covers security maintenance and compliance services.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
