What does one hour of billing cover for each instance option?
Each dimension bills per hour that the matching AWS EC2 instance runs. One node maps to one instance. The hourly rate reflects that instance type's compute, memory, and I/O profile. You pay for actual running hours across the nodes you launch.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges accrue per hour while the instance runs. Fully stopped instances do not accrue software hours. Stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but the dbX software meters running time only.
How do I add capacity, and does it change my hourly rate?
You scale by adding nodes, one at a time, to meet workload growth. Each added node bills at its own instance type's hourly rate. Compute and storage scale independently. Running more or larger nodes increases total hourly cost; the per-instance rate itself stays fixed.
