KopiaX uses a single pricing dimension billed by the hour on a t3.small EC2 instance. The software itself is free, so you pay only for the hourly runtime of the instance while KopiaX is deployed in your AWS account. There are no tiers, no size options, and no usage add-ons to choose between. Your cost scales directly with how many hours the t3.small instance runs. You launch KopiaX through CloudFormation, which creates the EC2 instance, and you stop billing by stopping the instance.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What resources do I get on the t3.small instance while running KopiaX?
The t3.small is a small AWS EC2 instance type that hosts the KopiaX application. It runs the scanning and output-generation engine. You launch it through CloudFormation, and it needs read-only access credentials to scan resources in your AWS account.
Am I charged when the KopiaX instance is stopped or not in use?
The KopiaX software is free, so no software charge applies. Charges relate only to the running t3.small instance hours. A fully stopped instance does not accrue runtime hours. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes.
What triggers the hourly runtime, and how do I stop the meter?
Runtime accrues while the t3.small instance is active after CloudFormation creates it. You scan your account and generate outputs during that time. To stop hourly charges, stop or terminate the EC2 instance. You load the browser plugin each session to connect to the instance.

CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
