These images are based on the official Ubuntu Minimal LTS, built specifically for the EKS service, therefore are not intended as general OS images.
To deploy Ubuntu Pro worker nodes on EKS, you can use eksctl, EC2 Launch templates, Cloudformation templates and many other mechanisms.

You pay by the hour for each EC2 instance running Ubuntu Pro 26.04 LTS on your EKS worker nodes. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, from small burstable sizes like t3.nano up to large memory, compute, GPU, and bare-metal instances. The rate scales with instance size, since pricing is based on the instance's vCPUs. You are charged only for the instances you run, with no upfront commitment. Metering is per hour on your AWS invoice. Choose the instance types that match your workload and scale node pools up or down as needed.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each charge maps to one running EC2 instance of the chosen type used as an EKS worker node. The rate scales with the instance's vCPU count. It covers security maintenance, compliance components, and patches for Ubuntu and many open source applications, until 2036.
The software charge meters running instance time only. When you scale node pools down or stop an instance, that instance stops accruing Ubuntu Pro hourly charges. Underlying AWS resources like storage may still bill separately through AWS, but the Ubuntu Pro software fee tracks running hours.

For Ubuntu Cloud Guest it is suggested to manually configure your Security Group/Firewall settings. The 1-Click Security Group opens only port 22 so that you can access your instance via ssh using login 'ubuntu'. If you chose the 1-Click Security Group, you may change it later to enable applications using the AWS Console or API.
