Canonical Landscape license included: Landscape, Canonical's official fleet management tool, automates security management tasks across your Ubuntu estate, available on request, streamlining control and security.
Ubuntu Pro for EKS remains fully compatible with Ubuntu 26.04 LTS for EKS, adding additional security, compliance, and management tools in a form suitable for small to large-scale Linux operations, including containers running on the cluster.
These images are based on the official Ubuntu Minimal LTS, built specifically for the EKS service, therefore are not intended as general OS images.
To deploy Ubuntu Pro worker nodes on EKS, you can use eksctl, EC2 Launch templates, Cloudformation templates and many other mechanisms.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for each EC2 instance running Ubuntu Pro on your EKS worker nodes. Each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, from small burstable sizes like t3.nano and t2.micro up to bare-metal and memory-heavy sizes like u7in-32tb.224xlarge. The rate scales with the instance's vCPU count, so larger instances cost more per hour. Pricing is metered by the second and added to your existing AWS bill. Choose the instance type that fits your workload; there are no tiers or commitments to select.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What determines the hourly rate for each instance type?
The rate scales with the instance's vCPU count. Ubuntu Pro pricing is based on the number of vCPUs the instance provides, so instances with more vCPUs cost more per hour. Charges are metered by the second and appear on your existing AWS invoice.
Am I charged when an EKS worker node is stopped or idle?
Ubuntu Pro meters running time by the second. A node that is stopped does not accrue Ubuntu Pro software charges. You pay only for the hours each instance actually runs. Underlying AWS storage or other AWS fees may still apply while an instance is stopped.
What security and compliance features are included with Ubuntu Pro on these instances?
Every instance type includes the same Ubuntu Pro coverage. You get security patches for infrastructure and hundreds of open source applications, FIPS 140-3 and Common Criteria EAL2 certified components, optional CIS and DISA STIG hardening, and Kernel Livepatch for updates without reboot.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
