ECS is a fully managed container orchestration service from AWS that makes it easy for you to deploy, manage, and scale containerized applications. Containers are defined using task definitions and run as services across a fleet of Amazon EC2 instances. ECS can automatically scale up your applications to meet a spike in demand or scale down when demand is less all leading to cost-effective operations in the cloud.
Underneath this robust container orchestration solution from AWS is Docker, an industry-standard container runtime engine as well as the ECS-Agent that is responsible for scheduling services across your clusters.
This listing bundles this robust orchestration solution together with Debian, the internet's favourite Linux Operating System into a single 1-Click deploy Optimized AMI.

AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the specific EC2 instance type you run. Each dimension maps to one AWS instance size, and the software runs on that instance. Pricing scales with the instance you choose, so smaller instances like t2.micro cost less per hour than larger ones like p4d.24xlarge. General-purpose (m-series, t-series), compute-optimized (c-series), memory-optimized (r-series), storage (d-series), and accelerated computing (g, p, inf, dl, vt) families are all covered. You select the instance that fits your workload; billing accrues only while it runs. Vendor support is included with the image.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get when I pay the hourly rate for a chosen instance type?
You get a Debian 10 machine image pre-configured for Amazon ECS, running on the EC2 instance size you select. The hourly charge covers the software license and vendor support. Underlying AWS compute and storage costs are billed separately by AWS.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The software fee meters only while the instance runs. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Note that AWS may still bill you for attached storage on a stopped instance, but that is separate from this software license.
How do I switch to a different instance size if my workload grows?
Each dimension is one EC2 instance type billed by the hour. To change size, you launch or resize to a different instance type, and billing follows the new rate automatically. You are not locked into one size; you pay the rate for whichever instance runs.
