Overview
ZIP Plus 4s includes over 65 million records, detailing the 5-digit ZIP Code and 4-digit extensions representing ZIP Code Sector and ZIP Code Segment in the United States. Over 40 postal attribute fields are also included to provide the detail needed to assist in utilizing ZIP Plus 4 data for internal processing and analysis. Additionally, Census block group codes, which include state, county, and tract codes, are provided for each ZIP Plus 4 record. A ZIP Code can represent one side of a street, a floor in a building, or a specific Post Office Box. The ZIP Code Sector (1234) represents a collection of addresses below the ZIP Code level. The ZIP Code Segment (1234) is more specific and always refers to a smaller set of addresses or a single address. In the case of PO Boxes, the ZIP segment is almost always the last two digits of the PO Box number. The four-digit ZIP Code extension is used by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to facilitate efficient mail handling and delivery.
The ZIP Plus 4s product consists of two data sets:
The main product table containing over 40 attribute fields.
An unmatched table containing approximately 6 million ZIP+4 records that have coordinates representing either an interpolated ZIP+4, a ZIP+2, or a 5-digit ZIP centroid. The positional accuracy results for these records do not have the geographic elements required to meet Precisely's quality criteria. However, these records are provided as they can still be used for more broad-based location matching and analysis. The unmatched ZIP+4 file has the same record layout as the base file but does not contain census tract, block group, or block values.
Over 40 attribute fields include but are not limited to the following: 5-digit ZIP Code ZIP Plus 4 code extension 5-digit ZIP Code and Plus 4 code extension Point match type: 1 = ZIP+4 centroid, 2 = ZIP+2 centroid, 3 = 5-digit ZIP Code Record type code: F- Firm, G - General Delivery, H - High-rise, P - PO Box (and more) 4-digit USPS carrier route ID Street name Street suffix abbreviation Primary low number in address range Primary high number in address range Address primary odd/even code: O - Odd, E - Even, B - Both Building or firm name ZIP Sector low number ZIP Sector high number ZIP Segment low number ZIP Segment high number LACS status code converted Government building indicator State FIPS Code State abbreviation County FIPS Code County Name Minor Civil Division code CBSA Code Congressional District number Census block group code (state, county, tract, and block group codes) Census block code (state, county, tract, block group and block codes) Latitude Longitude
