You pay by the hour for a Windows Server 2022 machine image, billed only for the time each instance runs. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the hardware you choose. Options span small burstable instances up to large compute, memory, storage, GPU, and accelerated types. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry higher hourly rates. You can run multiple instances at once, and your total cost adds up across every running instance. There is no upfront commitment; you scale up or down as needed.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually receive when I pay the hourly rate for a given instance type?
You get a running Windows Server 2022 machine image on the matching AWS EC2 instance type. The instance provides the CPU, memory, and any storage or GPU resources tied to that type. The hourly charge covers the software license for the operating system on that hardware.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A stopped or paused instance does not accrue the per-hour software rate. Underlying AWS resources such as attached storage may still incur separate AWS fees, but those are billed by AWS, not by this software license.
If I run several instances at once, how does my total bill add up?
Each running instance bills independently at the hourly rate for its instance type. Charges combine additively across every active instance. Your total is the sum of each instance's hours multiplied by its rate. Larger instance types with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry higher hourly rates.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
