See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for a hardened Windows Server 2022 machine image. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, so pricing scales with the compute you pick. Smaller shared and burstable instances (such as t2.micro or m1.small) sit at one end. Larger sizes within each family cost more per hour as vCPU and memory grow. Specialized families cover general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, GPU, and high-performance workloads. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs, with no upfront commitment. Choose the instance that matches your workload size.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing cover for a chosen instance type?
One hour covers one running instance of the EC2 type you select, packaged with the hardened Windows Server 2022 image. Counting starts when the instance runs and stops when you stop it. A larger instance type carries a higher hourly rate because it provides more vCPU and memory.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when an instance is stopped?
The hourly software fee meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay separate AWS fees for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but those are billed by AWS, not by this software license.
Do I have to commit upfront, or can I run instances on demand?
You run on demand with no upfront commitment. Each instance meters by the hour, so you pay only for the hours it runs. You can start, stop, and switch instance types as your workload changes, and your bill reflects the actual hours used.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
