Highlights
Mainly used as a common base system on top of which other appliances could be built and tested, this AMI contains the minimal Win Server 2022 Datacenter Base install and enough software packages to run within AWS, bring up an [RDP Server and allow users to login](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/WindowsGuide/connecting_to_windows_instance.html#connect-rdp).
In all our Win 2022 Server AMIs, the primary partition and coresponding filesystem are automatically extended at launch if volume is bigger than the default 30 GiB one.
Within our Microsoft Windows Server 2022 Full Base AMIs, [Enhanced Networking using ENA](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/WindowsGuide/enhanced-networking-ena.html) (i.e., Elastic Network Adapter) is enabled. All Windows Server 2022 security updates available at the image release date are included.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for a Windows Server 2022 image with support from ProComputers, running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, storage, or accelerator capacity you select. General-purpose (m), compute (c), memory (r, x, z), storage (i, d), and accelerated (g, p, f, inf, vt) families are all available. Larger sizes within a family carry higher hourly rates. You add standard AWS infrastructure charges separately. There are no tiers or commitments; you pay only for hours the instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually receive when I select one of these hourly dimensions?
You get a pre-configured Windows Server 2022 virtual machine image built by ProComputers, running on the Amazon EC2 instance type named in that dimension. The hourly rate covers the image and vendor support. The instance type sets your CPU, memory, storage, and any accelerator capacity.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when the EC2 instance is stopped?
The software charge meters running instance-hours. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Standard AWS charges, such as storage for the attached volume, may still apply while the instance is stopped. Billing resumes when you start the instance again.
How does my bill combine the software charge with AWS infrastructure costs?
Two charges apply on the same invoice. The dimension you pick sets the hourly software rate for the Windows Server image and support. Separately, AWS bills the underlying EC2 compute, storage, and data transfer. Both accrue per hour the instance runs and add together.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
