This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for a secure, ready-to-use Docker CE 29 container host with the Portainer web console. Run and manage containers from your browser on your own server, with unique passwords for every instance.
Docker lets you package an application with everything it needs and run it as a container, the same way on every server. Portainer adds a web console for starting, stopping and inspecting containers, images, volumes and networks without typing commands. This image gives developers and operations teams a ready Docker host in minutes, with a web console and examples to get going.
What is included: Docker Engine 29.8.0 with Compose v2, Buildx and containerd on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Portainer CE on port 9000, an Nginx landing page on port 80, Webmin 2.660 for server administration and two example Compose stacks in /home/ubuntu/examples. Docker's default network range is moved so it does not overlap common VPC addresses. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own Portainer and Webmin passwords, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. Docker Engine is open source software licensed under Apache-2.0, and Portainer CE under the zlib licence. Docker is a trademark of Docker, Inc., and Portainer is a trademark of Portainer.io. This image is an independent build by ProvenCloud.
Highlights
Ready in minutes: launch the instance, open Portainer on port 9000 and manage containers from your browser. Docker Engine, Compose v2, Buildx and Webmin are already installed.
Secure by default: no shared or default passwords. Every instance sets its own Portainer and Webmin passwords on first boot, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
Start fast: two example Compose stacks are ready in the home folder, the disk is sized for container images, and Docker's address pool is set so it does not clash with your VPC.

Docker CE with Portainer on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS by ProvenCloud [IN]
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance type you launch. Each dimension maps to one instance type, so your rate follows the compute size you pick, from small general-purpose machines up to large compute, memory, storage, and GPU instances. The software charge is the same flat hourly rate across every instance type; larger instances cost more only because of their own EC2 compute cost. A 5-day free trial applies, after which the software charge plus your EC2 costs are billed by AWS. Stop the instance and the charge stops.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit map to, and what software is included?
Each hourly unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you choose. The software stack includes a container engine, a compose tool, a web management console, a web server, and a system admin panel, all on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. No licence key is required.
Am I charged the software fee when I stop the instance?
No. The hourly software charge meters running time only. Stop the instance and the software charge stops. A stopped instance may still incur AWS storage fees for its attached volume, but that is an AWS cost, not the software charge.
How does the software charge combine with my EC2 compute cost?
Two charges apply at once. The software charge is a flat hourly rate billed through AWS. On top of that, you pay your own EC2 compute cost for the instance type you launch. Both appear on your AWS bill. Larger instance types raise only the compute portion.

Vendor refund policy
Software charges are billed hourly, only while your instance runs. You can stop charges at any time by terminating the instance or cancelling your subscription. Charges already incurred are not refundable.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Additional details
Usage instructions
Once the instance is running, open Portainer at http://<instance-public-ip>:9000 and sign in with admin as the username and your instance ID as the password. The landing page is at http://<instance-public-ip>. Webmin is on port 8000, so open http://<instance-public-ip>:8000 and sign in with admin as the username and your instance ID as the password. You can also connect over SSH with the username ubuntu and your Amazon key pair.
Required inbound ports: 22 (SSH), 80 (landing page), 9000 (Portainer) and 8000 (Webmin). Open extra ports only for the containers you publish. For security, allow ports 22, 9000 and 8000 only from your own IP address.
Your instance ID is shown in the EC2 console, for example i-0123456789abcdef0. Every instance sets its own passwords on first boot, so no two instances share a password. Allow two to three minutes after launch for the first-boot setup to finish before you sign in.
Try an example: connect over SSH, cd ~/examples/nginx-hello and run docker compose up -d. The README.md in ~/examples explains both stacks. Change your passwords with sudo bash /home/ubuntu/iscripts/pass_portainer.sh or pass_webmin.sh.
The image serves plain HTTP so it works on a bare IP address. Before using it in production, add your own domain and an SSL certificate, or place it behind a load balancer with HTTPS.
