You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance type you run this Ubuntu 22.04 LTS image on. There are no tiers or plans. Instead, each dimension maps to one specific AWS instance size. Pricing scales with the compute resources you pick. Small general-purpose types like t2.micro or t3.nano cost less per hour. Larger memory, compute, storage, or GPU-focused types like r7iz.metal-32xl, c7a.48xlarge, or p4d.24xlarge cost more. You only pay for the hours each instance runs. Choose the instance family and size that fits your workload's CPU, memory, storage, and accelerator needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing cover for a given instance type?
One hour equals one running instance of that EC2 type carrying this Ubuntu 22.04 LTS image. You are billed for each wall-clock hour the instance runs. Each instance you launch meters separately. Running two instances of the same type doubles the hourly charge.
Am I charged when I stop or pause an instance running this image?
The software charge meters running hours only. When you fully stop an instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. Underlying AWS fees, such as storage for the attached volume, may still apply while the instance is stopped. Restarting the instance resumes hourly billing.
What drives my cost if I run several different instance types at once?
Each instance type bills at its own hourly rate. Your total is the sum of every running instance's hourly charge across all types. No single combined rate applies. Larger or accelerator-focused types add more per hour than small general-purpose types. Costs stack independently on one invoice.
