You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you choose to run this Grafana with Prometheus image. The software itself carries no separate license fee, so your cost tracks the compute size you select. Options span several instance families, including t2, t3, t3a burstable types and m3, m4, m5, m5a, m5ad, m5d, m5dn, m5n general-purpose types. Within each family, sizes range from nano and micro up to 24xlarge and bare metal. Larger sizes offer more CPU and memory at higher hourly rates. You start and stop instances as needed, paying only for hours used.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get when I choose one of the hourly instance types?
You get a running virtual machine on AWS EC2 with the size you selected. The image comes preloaded with Grafana and Prometheus on Ubuntu 24.04. Each instance type sets the CPU and memory available. Access Grafana on port 3000 and Prometheus on port 9090 once running.
Am I charged when I stop or pause the instance?
Software hourly charges apply only while the instance runs. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. AWS may still bill underlying storage for a stopped instance. You pay software charges for running hours only.
What drives my cost across these instance options?
The instance type you pick drives cost. There is no separate software license fee, so your bill tracks the EC2 size and hours used. Burstable t2, t3, and t3a types suit lighter, variable loads. The m-family general-purpose types offer more steady CPU and memory at higher hourly rates.
