Overview
FalconStor StorSafe is a long-term archive software solution that delivers data portability, retention, and cost reduction. It delivers seamless integration with S3 compatible clouds, as well as integration with Hitachi HPC, IBM COS, and other object storage systems. FalconStor StorSafe integrates with legacy backup and archive software and provides physical tape emulation and advanced data deduplication technology. Using a Single Instance Repository (SIR) for block-level deduplication, the solution removes redundant copies of data, thereby reducing capacity requirements and improving data portability in the cloud. The deduplicated tape data gets packaged in a container and migrated to the object storage of a cloud provider. Each container holds compressed, unique, encrypted data, with the associated hashes and index. Because each container is self-contained, customers can easily move them between cloud vendors as needed, such as relocating older backups to cheaper storage. FalconStor StorSafe allows importing data from physical tapes and migrating data to the cloud. This provides an inexpensive solution for preserving data and renewing backups in the cloud where no physical tape libraries or drives are required. FalconStor StorSafe delivers:
- Persistent virtual storage container
- Data deduplication
- Checksum validation of containers
- Data encryption
- Heterogeneous portability for seamless transfer of a container to storage systems or any S3 enabled cloud

Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
