Dimensions summary
You pay for HiveMQ Cloud Starter based on two usage dimensions that combine on your bill. The Up-time hours dimension is a base fee charged per deployed cluster for each hour it runs. The Normalized Messages dimension adds a charge for every million messages processed, measured against a normalized message size. Your total cost scales with how long your cluster stays deployed and how many messages it handles. There is no upfront commitment; both dimensions bill by actual usage.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Messages are measured against a normalized size, based on a reference message size of 5 KB. Larger messages count as multiple normalized messages, and smaller ones count as a fraction. Your total is the count of normalized messages, billed in millions.
Both charges apply at the same time on one invoice. The up-time hours base fee accrues steadily for each hour your cluster runs. The message charge grows with how many normalized messages you process. High-throughput deployments see message charges dominate, while low-traffic clusters are driven mainly by up-time hours.
Yes. The up-time hours base fee applies per deployed cluster for every hour it runs, regardless of message traffic. If message volume drops, that message charge falls, but the up-time base fee continues until you tear down the cluster.

Vendor refund policy
Fees are nonrefundable except as set out in the HiveMQ AWS Marketplace Terms (EULA). Pro-rata refunds of prepaid, unused fees apply if HiveMQ sunsets material features without a successor (Sec. 2.3.3); the Services fail the performance standard uncured for 30 days (Sec. 4.1.2); force majeure exceeds 30 days (Sec. 9.2); Customer terminates for HiveMQ breach (Sec. 10.4.1); or the Services are enjoined for IP infringement (Sec. 15.3). Refunds are remitted to AWS through the Marketplace.

What do you like best about the product?
The best part about HiveMQ is its exceptional reliability and scalability for handling MQTT messages. Integrating it with java based systems was incredibly straightforward for my messaging projects. the control centre dashboard is very intuitive, making it easy to monitor active client connections and message traffic in real time. It effortlessly handles high throughput without dropping connections, which is a huge plus.
What do you dislike about the product?
While the platform is highly robust, the initial setup and configuration can be a bit overwhelming for someone just starting out. the documentation is very detailed but could definitely use more simplified, quick start examples for complex cluster setups. Also, the enterprise pricing can feel a bit steep for smaller scale applications.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using it to ensure seamless and low latency communication between connected devices. It completely solves the problem of the message loss during unreliable network conditions thanks to its QoS features. The biggest benefit for me is the stability it provides, knowing that the broker can scale up automatically if the number of connected clients suddenly spikes

The integration with Apache Kafka fits well into our existing workflow, and the pricing is reasonable compared to similar enterprise solutions. The support team has also been helpful whenever we had questions, and the AI features have reduced the time we spend on routine monitoring tasks.

Overall, our experience has been very positive. We haven't faced any major issues, and the platform has been easy for both experienced and new team members to use. If I had to mention one improvement, I would like to see more flexibility in dashboards and built-in analytics, but this hasn't affected our day-to-day work

Scales Effortlessly Under Heavy Load with Seamless Clustering

What do you like best about the product?
It's really all about scalability for us. We were running load test for new over the air update feature and i was honestly waiting for whole thing to crash. But HiveMQ just kept chugging along without breaking sweat. Clustering is phenomenal and we just spun up another node and it joined the party seamlessly. It handled backpressure from our downstream service gracefully too.
What do you dislike about the product?
Complexity of security setup is what i keep tripping over. We wanted to implement pretty strict X.509 client certificate authentication but getting mapping and validation rule right was pain. Documentation covers it, but it's bit scattered.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Biggest benefit for us is being able to guarantee message delivery in highly volatile network environment. QoS level in HiveMQ ensures we don't lose critical error code or software version data. We used to have to reconcile log from different gateway, which was very difficult. Now it's just clean ordered stream of data we can actually build real time dashboard that our manufacturing lead rely on.

What do you like best about the product?
I like using HiveMQ as our central hub for MQTT broker because it provides secure and reliable communication between IoT devices and applications. The best part about it is handling real-time message communication and its AI feature, which adds a cherry on the top. I appreciate its easy-to-use UI, which is user-friendly even for newcomers to HiveMQ. There's an AI assistant to help if I face any errors, making the overall experience quite smooth. The initial setup is also simple, which is a big plus for me.
What do you dislike about the product?
Like overall experience of mine is good but one thing that I supposed to be improved is to provide some learning material for some features that are advanced.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use HiveMQ for secure and reliable communication between IoT devices and apps, solving real-time communication and handling bulk data issues. Its easy-to-use UI and AI assistant are great, especially if you’re new, making it simple to set up.
