ArchiveKeeper is a revision safe document archive that securely encrypts and stores documents and custom metadata about them. The REST service ensures and proves that the documents and metadata were not manipulated afterwards.
The revision-proof document archive ArchiveKeeper allows you to prove that files (documents) and metadata have not been manipulated after archiving. ArchiveKeeper is a long-term document archive that can prove the integrity of files and metadata for each document (version) even decades after archiving. This auditability is the main feature of the REST services. Another feature is the ability to create custom metadata schemas, so you can store important information along with your files and search for documents using their metadata. In addition, ArchiveKeeper allows you to organize your documents into document spaces. These spaces allow you, among other things, to set retention periods and automatic deletion for documents. They also allow you to control what a user can see and what actions the user can perform on a document. ArchiveKeeper can easily be used with your existing identity management such as Amazon Cognition via OCID. Through its REST API, ArchiveKeeper can be easily integrated into your cloud environment. The AMI also includes an angular frontend that provides an intuitive view of the archive content.

You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you run ArchiveKeeper on. The 18 options are not feature tiers; they are compute sizes. Choices span the t2, t3, and m4 instance families. Smaller sizes like t3.nano and t3.micro suit lighter workloads. Larger sizes like m4.10xlarge and m4.16xlarge handle heavier processing needs. Hourly billing scales with the size you select, so you match the instance to your document archiving volume. AWS infrastructure charges apply separately from the software hourly rate.

What does one hourly unit cover, and does the EC2 instance size change the software's features?
Each unit is one hour that ArchiveKeeper runs on the EC2 instance size you pick. The size sets compute power, not features. A t3.nano and an m4.16xlarge run the same software. Larger sizes handle heavier document processing but do not unlock extra capabilities.
Am I charged when the ArchiveKeeper instance is stopped or paused?
Software hourly charges accrue only while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the software rate. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes. The software meter counts running time only.
How do I choose the right instance size for my archiving workload?
Match the size to your document volume and user load. Smaller sizes like t3.micro suit light archiving with few concurrent users. Larger sizes like m4.10xlarge suit millions of documents and heavier metadata search. You can select any size within the t2, t3, and m4 families.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Usage instructions
Create a new key pair or use one of your existing pairs when launching the AMI. Use this key and the user ubuntu to connect to the EC2 instance via ssh.
Follow the setup guide https://github.com/RISE-GmbH/ArchiveKeeper/blob/main/AWS/AMI/Documentation/Setup-Guide-12-2024-V1.pdf to set up the required other AWS components and to configure the archivekeeper services. After changing the environment files (env) to your needs, you can use "docker compose up -d" to start archivekeeper.

If you want to use the revision safety feature access to an external timestamping service is required. By default, https://freetsa.org/tsr is used but you can use any RFC 3161 compatible timestamping service.
