Overview
The FPGA Developer AMI is an Amazon Linux 2 based AMI provided by Amazon Web Services. The AMI is pre-built with FPGA development tools required to develop and use custom FPGAs for hardware acceleration. The FPGA Developer AMI includes Xilinx tools for simulating your FPGA design, compiling code and building your AFI (Amazon FPGA Image). Developers can deploy the FPGA Developer AMI on an Amazon EC2 instance and quickly provision the resources they need to write and debug FPGA designs in the cloud. The FPGA Developer AMI is provided at no additional charge to Amazon EC2 users.

Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
