Containers are lightweight, portable execution environments that wrap server application software in a filesystem that includes everything it needs to run. Container applications run on supported container runtimes and orchestration services, such as Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) or Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS). Both eliminate the need for you to install and operate your own container orchestration software by managing and scheduling containers on a scalable cluster of virtual machines.

Unified backups have cut storage costs and now protect Kubernetes workloads across clouds

    Reviewed on Jul 06, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

I appreciate the ease of use as my main use case for Portworx PX-Backup . It provides a single pane of glass management for backing up Kubernetes  workloads, which helps meet recovery time objectives in my organization. I also value that Portworx PX-Backup  can quickly and efficiently recover data in the event of an outage or disaster, making it an ideal choice for our business. Additionally, Portworx PX-Backup can easily scale to accommodate growing data volumes and changing business needs, providing a versatile option for organizations that works across multiple platforms. The user-friendly interface of Portworx PX-Backup makes it easy to set up and manage backups, even for users who are not experienced in data backup and recovery.

An example of how I have used Portworx PX-Backup in my organization is through advanced snapshotting. Portworx PX-Backup allows us to take frequent and consistent snapshots of our data to ensure quick and efficient recovery in the event of an outage or disaster. These snapshots can also be used to test new applications or software without affecting the existing data. We also use it for incremental backups. Portworx PX-Backup supports incremental backups, which means that only the changed data is backed up instead of the entire data set, thereby reducing backup time and storage cost.

    What is most valuable?

Portworx PX-Backup uses global deduplication, which helps us to eliminate redundant data across multiple backup sets, reducing storage cost and improving backup and restore speeds.

Portworx PX-Backup offers several best features including advanced snapshotting, incremental backups, global deduplication, cloud-native architecture, and multi-cloud support. The feature that has made the biggest difference for my team is global deduplication, which eliminates redundant data across multiple backup sets, reducing storage cost and improving backup and restore speeds.

Portworx PX-Backup has positively impacted my organization by eliminating redundant data across multiple backup sets through global deduplication, which reduces storage cost and improves backup and restore speeds. Through incremental backups, Portworx PX-Backup allows only the changed data to be backed up instead of the entire data set, thereby reducing backup time and storage cost.

    What needs improvement?

Portworx PX-Backup may be more expensive than other backup and recovery solutions, which may not fit the budget of some organizations, especially small organizations working on a tight budget.

Although Portworx PX-Backup is compatible with various cloud providers and storage systems, other backup and recovery solutions may have broader compatibility with different hardware, software, and cloud platforms.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Portworx PX-Backup for the past five years.

    What was our ROI?

Since using Portworx PX-Backup, we have been able to save an incredible amount of cost, specifically one hundred thousand dollars per year through backup.

What other advice do I have?

Portworx PX-Backup's intuitive user interface helps us to manage backups, allowing everyone, even those who are not familiar with data backups, to manage the data effectively and efficiently. On a scale of one to ten, I would rate Portworx PX-Backup a ten out of ten.

I give it a ten because Portworx PX-Backup can quickly and efficiently recover data in the event of an outage or disaster, making it an ideal choice for any business of all sizes.

Regarding Portworx PX-Backup's security capabilities, I believe its security is robust, offering features that help us to protect our data in case of data loss and downtime or outages or disasters.

Regarding Portworx PX-Backup's AI capabilities, I find it very accurate and reliable at all times. I rate this product a ten out of ten overall.

What do you like best about the product?
In the current digital transformation world, most of enterprises are looking for next-generation AI-enabled microservices. While there are multiple benefits of microservices, but having stateful applications with reliable data storage and persistence is still a concern. Portworx Enterprise simplifies this problem and pr by providing high-performance, reliable storage which can be used for both traditional and next gen storage solutions.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing much to complain about Portworx as it supports multiple clouds and underlying platform, but building industry-specific use cases and various compliance will help quickly position to multiple solutions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Portworx is helping us to run stateful applications seemlessly across two major public clouds along with on-premise environment. With this, we can backup and restore seamlessly and it supports AZ replication natively hence less administrator work and reduces efforts and money.

What do you like best about the product?
In K8s I can share data between pods across multiple zones, its been useful so far as it has worked on all cloud-native lifecycle. i mainly use this storage option when there is a need to run Cassandra and Kafa.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing as such interms of product as Portworx however, I find setting or configuring is a bit to complex and one can please work an make it user friendly please.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been using it by setting up a VPN from my onpremises infra to one of the well known cloud platform, I have'nt seen any disturbance till now works good and deletion takes time need to wait for long time according to me.

Best in Class for database and K8s stateful service storage

What do you like best about the product?
Provides the best solution which is scalable and to make we do not have single point of failure. Worked very well when we were looking for a single data management layer.
What do you dislike about the product?
Initially when we were exploring the tool, the customer support was not that great, which later improvised a lot. The time to test the tool should be more, as we had wide range of use cases and limited Devops resources.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We had a multi cluster kubernetes setup and we wanted a tool which worked with k8s seamlessly and after lot of experimentation Portworx was definitely the right choice. Optimizing costs were one of the other factors which we had in mind and it was also checked.
