You pay by the hour for this hardened RHEL 8 image, with the rate set by the AWS EC2 instance type you launch. Each dimension maps to one instance type across families like general purpose (m, t), compute optimized (c), memory optimized (r, x, z, u), storage optimized (i, d, h), and accelerated computing (g, p, inf, trn, f, vt, dl). Smaller sizes such as nano, micro, and large cost less per hour; larger sizes and metal options cost more as you scale up vCPU, memory, and hardware. You are billed only for hours used.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You pay a software fee per hour the instance runs, based on the EC2 instance type you launch. Larger types with more vCPU and memory carry a higher hourly rate. This software charge is separate from the underlying AWS infrastructure fee for the same instance.
The hourly software fee applies only while the instance runs. Stopped or paused instances do not accrue software charges. You may still pay AWS for attached storage during that time, but the software meters running hours only.
This is usage-based billing with no upfront commitment. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs. If you stop using an instance, charges stop. This suits workloads that vary or run intermittently rather than continuously.
