You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen AWS EC2 instance. Each dimension maps to a specific instance type, so pricing scales with the compute size you select. Options span general-purpose (m-, t-series), compute-optimized (c-series), memory-optimized (r-series), GPU-enabled (g5), and high-performance computing (hpc7a) families. Smaller sizes like nano and micro carry lower hourly rates, while larger sizes such as 48xlarge and metal instances cost more. There is no upfront commitment. You run only the instances you need and stop paying when you shut them down.

The hourly rate covers the software running on that EC2 instance. This is repackaged open source software with charges added for vendor support. The listing includes JupyterHub, SageMath, and Keycloak for authentication, with hundreds of Python packages preconfigured. The AWS infrastructure cost is billed separately by AWS.
Software charges meter running time only. When you stop or shut down the instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. Underlying AWS storage fees for stopped instances may still apply, but those come from AWS, not the software listing.
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, and you pay the hourly rate for whichever you run. You can launch a instance size that fits your workload and stop paying for the previous one. There is no upfront commitment tying you to a single size.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Ubuntu 26.04 x86_64 with Python 3.12.14, JupyterHub 6.0.1, Keycloak 26.7.4, 402 installed Python packages, and automatic IP-based HTTPS. Verified Keycloak admin and non-admin login, JupyterLab notebook execution, service restart, and EC2 public-IP change. Removes build-time SSH authorized keys from the AMI.

Usage instructions
Launch with a public IPv4 address and require IMDSv2. Allow inbound TCP 443 for JupyterHub and Keycloak; allow SSH TCP 22 only from your administrator IP. Keep TCP 80, 8000, 8080, and 5432 closed.
The instance configures https://PUBLIC_IP automatically with a self-signed certificate for its current public IP. Before entering credentials, connect as ubuntu using your EC2 SSH key and compare the browser certificate's SHA-256 fingerprint with: sudo openssl x509 -in /etc/keycloak-jupyterhub/tls/fullchain.pem -noout -fingerprint -sha256
Open https://PUBLIC_IP/hub/login and choose Sign in with Keycloak. Sign in as jhub-admin using the EC2 instance ID as the initial password. Change it when prompted. The Keycloak admin console is at https://PUBLIC_IP/auth/admin/master/console/. Its username is keycloak-admin. Retrieve its separate random bootstrap password over SSH with: sudo sed -n 's/^KEYCLOAK_BOOTSTRAP_ADMIN_PASSWORD=//p' /etc/keycloak-jupyterhub/bootstrap.env Rotate that password after setup and update the local bootstrap.env and keycloak.env before later reconfiguration. Create users in the JupyterHub-Server realm. On an EC2 public-IP change, automatic startup regenerates the certificate and updates the OAuth endpoints; verify the new certificate fingerprint before signing in.
