You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen AWS EC2 instance. Each dimension maps to a specific instance type, so pricing scales with the compute size you select. Options span general-purpose (m-, t-series), compute-optimized (c-series), memory-optimized (r-series), GPU-enabled (g5), and high-performance computing (hpc7a) families. Smaller sizes like nano and micro carry lower hourly rates, while larger sizes such as 48xlarge and metal instances cost more. There is no upfront commitment. You run only the instances you need and stop paying when you shut them down.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate covers the software running on that EC2 instance. This is repackaged open source software with charges added for vendor support. The listing includes JupyterHub, SageMath, and Keycloak for authentication, with hundreds of Python packages preconfigured. The AWS infrastructure cost is billed separately by AWS.
Software charges meter running time only. When you stop or shut down the instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. Underlying AWS storage fees for stopped instances may still apply, but those come from AWS, not the software listing.
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, and you pay the hourly rate for whichever you run. You can launch a instance size that fits your workload and stop paying for the previous one. There is no upfront commitment tying you to a single size.
